Hello,

I recently picked up a 2006 Rubicon with 150k miles, no rust, hard top, bone stock.

I have ordered a Currie lift, savvy skids/TT, swayloc, etc.

Planning to start with 255/85r16s on stock moab wheels. May eventually go up to 35s.

Given that, I am looking at shops to regear my D44s, who has experience with the factory Air lockers to make sure they will still work after.

I am located in the lake tahoe area, but can bring the jeep to socal, or bay area if needed. Can anyone recommend a good shop for this regear?

I read about the RWKHaus guy, but unclear if he is still in business or how to get in touch with him.

Thanks!

Just adding- it’s holding the sensor pin open that is the challenge- that is the only significant difference, but it’s worth having the conversation.

Enjoy your LJR -I sure do mine.

Gear deep enough.

Was thinking 5.38s. Would this be annoyingly low with 33s?

Still appreciate any suggestions on shops that people have been pleased with.

If it an auto it might be your best move. I run a 35 and 5:38 and would not want a lower ratio. Lower meaning 5:13, 4:88, etc.

An LJ weighs more too.

I also have an auto TJR on 33’s with 4:88. It works good, but would suffer with a taller tire I think. I’d at least notice it.

I drove a 6 speed LJR on 37’s last Saturday, 5:38. Pulled the tires effortlessly.

Hopefully this bump gets some interest/keeps the thread up.

The auto in the LJ and 03-06 TJ has a DEEP overdrive. The ratios are similar to a 700r4. at 70 MPH and 5.38's, you'd be at around 2700 RPM on 33's. Not too bad, at least for what I'm used to on my setup.

With the 6 speed, I would say 5.38's are a bit short for 1st and 6th gear. 1st is a 4.46:1 and at 70 MPH in 6th, you'd be at 3300 RPM.

SoCal area here. Robert from RWKHaus did my regear but I've been told he's been MIA for several months now. @Jerry Bransford has recommended Martin from Mobil Gear on several occasions: https://mobilegearinstallers.com/

and definitely go with 5.38s

Now we got ya rollin’.

Good work gang.

Thanks everyone I asked river city for a quote already, came back $2,650 which feels rather steep...

Man I’m not trying to spend your money or decide for you- but if they have experience with these, a record of success and have been around (and will be around ) 500 more give or take is worth missing a headache if you can swing it.

You want someone who has been in more rear ends than a proctologist.

I had one gear shops job fail 35,000 miles later- pretty sickening. It was the rear….but told me the front was not set correctly, so did both.

Like 2 tile showers in the same house done by the same guy- one leaks, the other likely will.

All the best
Andy
