This is what I am finding. Wheel mount surface to wheel mounting surface

CJ (46-81) = 53”/50.5” Front/Rear
CJ (81-86) = 56”/54.5” Front/Rear
TJ/YJ = 60.5”
JK “ = 65.5”
JL (Non Rubicon) = 66.5”
JL (Rubicon/Max Tow) = 68.5”

I was surprised to see the new JL is basically “full size”.

How wide is a normal full size truck axle WMS to WMS?

What about CJ and YJ? It’s honestly just interesting to see how much bigger they continue to get.

Updated the first post. Having trouble finding the Willys MB looks like 48.25” but can’t figure out if that is the axle or track width for sure.

A full size truck is about 80" wide. A full size axle is about 70" wide. They vary allot but those are the basic numbers. There are a million different combinations out there, the more you research it the more options you'll find. The Dana 80 is a good reference for full size trucks.

I been thinking about axle swaps … something to remember. The JK axle is only 2” wider all in. The typical/ideal backspace is 5.2” whereas in a TJ we run 3.75-4.25 backspace. That eats up a bit of difference.

The narrow JL axle would then be 3” wider.

I think some JL axles with after market 5.2 backspace wheels or even stock 6.2 on 37’s could be a sweet setup. Plus their brakes are huge.

Some gladiator axles have thicker tubes in their narrow with versions.
