Where can I pick up the violet / black lead that powers the backup lights?

Thought (hoped) I could find it in the bundle along the drivers door sill, but it's not there.

Confirmed it's violet with black tracer. I was hoping to use it as a trigger for aux reverse lights and not have to run all the way to back and return to the front....

Any idea where I might pick it up closer to the dash?

should be down in the loom for the fuel tank wires, i think. the lamps feed splits from that loom IIRC.

There's a bottom flap at the bottom of each of the two rear corners that can be lowered to gain access to the wiring leading to the tail lights. It is released by pulling the plastic pin partially out with a pair of pliers.

I ran a power lead beside the camera cable and tapped into the taillight to plug cable. I didn’t want to disturb the main harness. The lights are easier to replace than the main wire group.

You can pick it up near the PCM or almost directly under the rear of the center console.

At the PCM would be convenient since I am running wires from the battery to the dash anyway. Under the center console.. I am assuming that is from below the jeep. Less convenient.

Thank you both! Yes, I've been under there many times. That was where I confirmed the wire color. I could pick it from the taillight but then I am running multiple wires fore and aft. That's my fallback if all else fails.

Since it's for an aux reverse light, which I have added as well, you won't have to run any wiring forward from that rear-most location inside the tub.

Near the PCM. I would have to dig into one but I believe the violet and white and violet and black are in the harness that goes down beside the dipstick. V/W should be input to the reverse light switch and V/B should be the output.

Depends on how big the light draw is. I wouldn't run much of an additional load on that circuit since it is 18 gauge.

True, though it's enough to power a low-draw LED aux backup light like I use. I did make use of a +12v wire already added for my trailer brakes so I could turn the backup light on independently of the Reverse circuit via the SPDT switch in the below photo.

Setup is going to be auto on with reverse lights and manual on via SPST switch. Through a five pin relay. I'll be running the trigger and dedicated power.. Not running off the taillight power. Have to look at my notes but pretty sure it will need three wires from the relay. Trigger, and two power from the relay.

Small LEDs... the specs don't show how much they draw.

I found VB at the taillights and confirmed it is switched to the backup lights. Just trying to find that wire up front.

I'll check at the PCM tomorrow. If it isn't obvious I'll just run the wires as needed. Don't want to molest any wires at the PCM.

As I stated above, I am pretty sure you won't find the VB forward of the reverse light switch on the trans, manual or auto. IIRC, that power lead goes into the switch as a VW and then out as VB.

Just above the driver's side footwell, there is a stack of wiring connector blocks. Most of them have wires coming in or going out. However, there are two places where a wire jumps from one block to the next. One of them happens to be for the backup wiring. I tapped into this for my Aux. backup lights.
My camera wouldn't focus very well, but here it is:

The green circle shows the backup light wire. The one above is for the high beam lights.
I spliced into them using these:

Which I know are generally frowned upon, but I didn't have room to do anything else. The red one is B/U, the blue is high beams.

Thanks much. You and the others are very helpful.

I'll dig around for that.. perfect location if I can find it. Should I be able to see that just peeking under the dash on the drivers side?

On the driver's side, in front of the door, up near the firewall. There are a BUNCH of those stacked on top of one another. But I think, (?) that there only the two that "jump" from one block to another.

Just took a look. Need to be a contortionist to get up in there. Removing the knee bolster won’t help. Going to get the snorkel out and dive in upside down!!

I had to lay on my back with my feet braced against a friends to get to it.🤬

Should have done this when I had the seat out to install the CC security draw.

I’ve got time. I have to order new switches. I just finished the DIY dual switch bank. I bailed on my initial plan to use the OE looking non-illuminated switches in favor of Illuminated toggles. Modified all of them to fit in the switch bank. I don’t like how these look. So now I have six switches i modded that I can’t return and probably won’t use. Live and learn.
