I have a 05 Sport with 6 speed trans. and no lift. I get a shuttering of trans and motor when letting clutch out slowly especially when backing up. Not sure if it has to do with trans or motor mounts or neither. I've got just over 100,000 on it. Has anyone else experienced this?

Maybe @Chris can move this to a better section of the forum where you'll have a better chance of getting an answer.

To your question, it sounds like clutch chatter to me. Does your clutch slip at all when fully released (pedal all the way out)?

That sure sounds like failing transmission mounts to me, I think you hit the nail on the head.

Take a good look at your transmission mount, they tend to degrade over time and can cause a serious shudder. Get in there with something like a 2x4 and try prying the mount looking for any movement or separation.

From the sounds of it, it sounds more like a warped flywheel. I bet this is more of a clutch issue. A shutter can be caused by either bad spring(s) in the clutch cover or a warped flywheel can do it too. In rare cases a hogged out pilot bushing can contribute too. In any case I would bet it is the clutch, and I would replace the pilot bearing, and have the flywheel machined true or replaced at the same time.

Could be a clutch also, just so you are aware machining the flywheel is not recommended at the surface from the factory is slightly convex.

I vote clutch as well. Mine started chattering in reverse before the TO bearing finally puked. Replace the clutch, and get a new flywheel while you're in there.

So I crawl under to check trans mount and found all four bolts holding mount to trans were LOOSE! Two of them were about a half dozen or so turns loose. Went for ride and WAHLAH, no more shuttering. Have had Jeep for about five years and the noise had been there as long as I can remember. Never had any trans work done so no telling how long its been that way. Thanks everyone for all the tips.

And so the saying goes... Keep it simple stupid!

Usually the most difficult questions have the simplest answer. Ockham's Razor at it's finest.
