MountaineerTom's 2006 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Seem to have missed this haul of parts before. Are you just changing out two control arms?

After I install the raised skid plate, if I have vibes, I'll install the upper rear control arms to hopefully fix that. If it doesn't, then I guess the SYE and a driveshaft will go in.

I bought the control arms and SYE unused from a member here at a good price. There will likely be more control arms in the future.

Fortunately the LJ is more forgiving!

Torq Locker installed. ✅
Spin test good. ✅
Test drive good. ✅

This was really easy to do. The hardest part was popping the carrier out. Refilled with the recommended conventional 85W-140 gear oil in Valvoline flavor.

Also installed the M.O.R.E. steering shaft riser bracket to go with the body lift and a Rugged Ridge Dana 30 skid. Finished up the motor mount lift with the correct size M10 bolts.

I really like your build, in particular because you take such a considered approach.
I had not really thought about changing just the rear upper control arms if I get vibrations, not sure why, but I hadn't. Maybe now I will think about it a bit more.
I also have that steering shaft bracket as I bought the MORE 1" body lift, but I must be honest I have never fitted it, your post has reminded me of this

I drove the Jeep to test the locker before installing the M.O.R.E. bracket and it seemed to be fine. I didn’t like how the shaft coming out of the firewall looked (like it was resting on the bottom of the opening), so I went ahead and installed it since I had it. Slightly hard to get your hands in that area.

Raising the rubber splash shield in the fender well to gain access that way help a lot with the two larger bolts. Temporarily removing the bolt on the outside of the frame rail that holds the brake lines and moving them out of the way helps too.

Really enjoying the build so far. I keep going back and forth with the idea of a torq locker of selectable locker in the front. I'm looking forward to your results of the tummy tuck. I have everything I need to start mine except for time...

Yeah, a selectable would have been nice, but the Torq was WAY cheaper and easier to install for me. If I ever to bigger tires, I'd want to regear and will consider at that time if I want to stay with the Torq or go with a selectable.

I hear you about having time. 😐

I guess I ought to take a look at mine. Since the savvy lift didn't come with one, I didn't even think about it, and even once I learned of the existence of these brackets I was focused on the function and didn't even think about it rubbing.

Today is the day to order one from M.O.R,E., I think they are having 22% off today only.

Well, I may not be the best person to compare them. This is the first time I’ve ever messed with an auto locker, or any locker actually. Just off the top of my head I know the Torq has less parts to it. Only 2 springs and no pins. The Torq seems beefier to me from the videos I've seen. It also comes with a new cross pin.

@freedom_in_4low has a good video comparing a few different ones due to some troubles he had starting with the Powertrax No Slip Lock Right.

Hmmm. Interesting video. The PowerTrax Lock Rite is different from the PowerTrax No Slip that I have. Does the Torq ratchet when you turn?

Oops, I meant @freedom_in_4low had the Lock Right, not the No Slip.

Yes, the Torq does ratchet and click when turning. With the windows up and radio off I can't hear it in the cab. With the windows down and radio off, I can hear it. In the Torq instructions, it says there is a 600 mile break in and it may be less noticeable after that. It also says and occasional "clunk" may be heard with this style locker and should be of no concern. I'm using the recommended 85W-140 conventional gear oil that is supposed to help quiet it down.

I've only driven it about 25 miles though. Too much crappy, rainy weather.
