What did you do to your TJ today?

Washed the exterior at the car wash on the way home tonight.

Also determined the OEM multifunction switch has been discontinued. It was a hassle to find one about 35-40k ago at the dealer but it unexpectedly just didnt last after all. Grew tired of observing fog lights randomly on and annoyingly tapping the stalk multiple times on right turns to get it to click into place.
dropped $100 at the auto supply shop a few towns over for the Standard Ignition Multifunction switch and installed it... we will see how long it last, I figure im gonna need to use the lifetime warranty in the future. but at least theres a warranty VS the one I obtained from the dealer without. Easy job just need a long Phillips screwdriver & two small Torx bits. Took longer to reprogram the radios EQ settings after disconnecting the battery for the job.

In all honestly the stalk feels a little smoother than the OEM one did but this ones also not been broken in yet.

Gonna clean all the dash/plastics for the next project, vacuumed the carpet last week.

Finly "broke" down and got a new windshield (get it? 😄) cost me 450 dollars. The chick was like "oh I love installing on these older jeeps it's so easy only took me like 30 minutes ".
Then why da F**k does it cost 450 dollars???!!! 🤬

Man when I had mine installed it was $100.00 even, or course the windshield guy is a bud of mine.

Seriously I don't see it being more than $150.00. Windshield and half hour labor.
I think my mistake was taking it to safelite. But I kinda needed it done like 5 years ago and they had an opening. If I wasn't such a lazy ass and had not waited and actually shopped around would probably been cheaper. But then again shit right now all over is veeerryyy expensive 😒

That’s pretty high. I think mine was $190 out the door last fall. No friend discounts.

I hate to say it but I just read about the two worst auto glass companies in the whole country.

Safelight does it's best to be the most expensive and even if you're lucky enough to talk them down they'll still be the highest around. They only install glass that they made. Usually a windshield mold is used for 25,000 or so windshields before the glass ends up wavy and the mold needs replaced. Safelite does twice as many if not more. At least the TJ and older Jeep windshields were flat and the waviness doesn't show up in production so soon.

Then there's Auto Glass Now. IIRC, 10 yrs ago they had maybe three shops in the whole country but one of those shops was less than 10 miles from my shop. I believe the same company has been through at least three different names, two of which used a big 50% OFF WINDSHIELDS logo on their vans. They pretty much guarantee themselves to be the cheapest and they succeed at that if your main goal is getting the cheapest. They only order the cheapest glass they can get and if they can't get it this week they schedule you out next week, or some time after that. Anything else they use including gasoline is also the cheapest they can find and the couple of their installers that I've met were "fully trained" and on their own in less than a week. On the good side, the TJ windshield is flat and not too large which makes it pretty easy to do right.

The biggest thing I'd worry about on a TJ windshield done anywhere is if they accidentally scraped the paint on the windshield frame under the rubber moulding and didn't use the urethane primer to seal the scratches to avoid causing rust. Prying that moulding up to look under it shouldn't be easy and could cause other problems. My windshield was replaced before I bought the TJ and am no longer able to replace it myself so each fall I slide the straw from my favorite stuff, Fluid Film under the molding and spray all the way around under there. I know that will cause hate and potential installation issues in the future but I figure I'll slice that moulding off and pressure wash the whole thing at least two or three times if the windshield ever needs replaced again.

Yikes. Is there a way to know if they did damage the paint w/o prying at the molding? I did do a pretty thorough inspection before leaving the place, it looked OK but now I'm not so sure

Yea remember years ago it being around 350 but that was back in Florida. So now I'm not sure if I got screwed. I guess there's not much I can do about it now. 😒
I get free windscreen replacement with my insurance ...its pretty much the norm out here...Ive had mine done about 3 times in 8 years.

I've only had to replace it once before about 6 years ago after some rough off reading and have actually had a nest of cracks in the upper corner for about 7 years, they never grew thankfully. I guess 2 windshields over 16 years ain't too bad...

Yea I think in some states you can get it replaced w/o actually using insurance. But I'm in Washington and still under Texas insurance so I would have had to pay the 500 dollar deductible anyway.
