Midnight Metalworks Rockbox D300

Well since he has a 2.5-3" stretch on the front of his rig I think he's asking how you are going to get anything over 2" of stretch without moving a LOT of things.
What are you doing with the trackbar? Steering box? Pitman arm? Drag link? And other items that all get in the way.

But back to the subject of this thread, Are you running a stock D300 case? What flip kit are you going with? Stock gearing?
Full hydro and 4 link pretty much eliminates most of those items listed.

The issue I have investing in the Hero case is when we hit another recession and these companies start to close doors will we wind up not being able to get parts like the Stak cases? Or any case that uses specific parts.

It wasn't the recession that was the cause of STaK's demise. That was a few things. Blaine listed them in the other thread on doublers.

There was a design flaw in the gears which caused it to pop out of gear plus it would spit oil no matter what you kept the oil levels at.
And once they started having problems their customer service went out the WINDOW.... It was a shitty situation and those of us who had taken the chance on them suffered. There were at least one if not two companies who stepped up and made a new intermediate shaft that fixed the popping out of gear issue.

So yes I now have a $3K paper weight if something breaks in my case. I wasn't having the popping out of gear issue when I'd parked it & hope I don't have it. But this is why I'm always interested in all these threads since if my STaK's does take a shit on me I'll be looking at swapping in a different case.

For all the BAD MOUTHING of the STaK's I can say they did make other companies take a look at what they were offering. Because of the 3 speed case from what I understand this helped push AA to offer the 4 speed Atlas. And due to STaK's offering the replacement D300 case other companies now are offering one. So while they were only around for a few years they did push things to happen.

And coming from someone who has one I really LIKE the 3.05 & 5.44 low range options. The ONLY thing I wish was that I had that 10:1 or lower ratio also. But for 98.5% of the things I do those two ratios work great.

Staks issue may have not been recession driven but many other companies have closed due to economy. When things get a bit tight $4k t cases get put on hold.
Parts availability in the future is a consideration, unfortunately we cannot predict the future.
The 4 speed is the way to go for sure. Then you have approximately 2.72,4-1 & 10-1 options.

Yes but then I'm back to length issues if I go with a Atlas or center line issues (transmission clearance) if I go with a Black Box & D300. Plus if you add up the cost for the Black Box $1500 approx & a Midnight box $3500 I'm at the price of a Hero 3 speed box.

Yes and before you know it you spent $5k to go slower. LMAO

Us 3 pedal guys get all the cool stuff. Lol.

Some people spend $$$$ to go fast while us Jeep people spend $$$$ to go SLOW and SLOWER.

I'm just keeping my finger crossed that I develop issues with my STaK's. I missed out on out on getting one of the improved shafts since when they'd come out was when I'd taken a break from 4x4's.

Blaine had mentioned this to me earlier, but I just read something about it too, TWF bought most of the stak patents and may have a shaft. Try calling them?

This reminds me of the slow drags with VW Busses. They were a hoot to participate in.

Yes they were one of the companies that offered a short run of new shafts. Unfortunately, no they don't have any more of them as I've reached out to them and the other company. And unless I could find 15-20 people who wanted a shaft it isn't worth it for them to tool up to make one.

I've done slow drags in 4x4's before. I had a Suzuki Samurai with a 6.5:1 crawler box & 5.13 gears. The only thing that beat me was a Toyota with 3 transfer cases stacked.

I like my Rubi Crawler and 241 combo for now. If I ever go to big HP it might have to be replaced.

Still want to stick with the 4.0 for now. Maybe a turbo? Supercharger works well enough just need a competent tuner to turn some stuff off and fiddle with fuel / air. Have a MAP issue too but its intermittent for now.

There are days I would like to go back to my little 4 popper and Tera-Low t-case. But I'm not going to so I'll enjoy my big V-8. So yes I need that drivetrain that can handle 400+ HP & TQ.

Sometimes I think I want to go the v8 big tire route. Other times I think I like to see how much I can get out of my little TJ.

Hey y’all. To the best of my ability and with a Klein digital angle finder.
Rear pinion to driveshaft is 17.5 +- each.
Front pinion to driveshaft is 7.7 & 10.5.
What do you think ?

Has anyone ordered one of these? Well i have 3 months ago lead time was 6 to 8 weeks when ordered a month in they up it to 10 to 12 and increase my lead time to 12 weeks well 16 weeks and repeated lies still no transfer case.do yourself a favor order atlas .these idiots will be like stak soon.oh maybe their erector set looking chassis will keep them a

Damn that's too bad. Was there any reasons given? Such as material availability or such? Was hoping they wouldn't be another STaK's

It’s a lot of money for a Dana 300. If you don’t need the compact size the atlas is a better choice than this expensive 300. There is a reason the atlas has gone through so many changes over the years. They keep upgrading parts and pieces to make it better. I love my 300 doubler, however it was built complete and installed for much less.

The excuse is they received a bunch of orders .which should not effect my lead time i bought in a month prior to lead time increase .bottom line they have too may irons in the fire.they need to leave chassis building to wide open and build our transter cases.if they couldnt get you're cash till order was shipped i bet they would not be so incompet

My buddy has one, but he bought it empty case. Took a while to get but is sure is purdy. He blew up a couple stock Dana 300 cases due to having a hot rod 4BT in his YJ. Still has not built it since the Jeep is getting a Mercedes OM606 swapped in.
