Winch rope recommendations

As far as I've found so far, the UV only degrades the color. Dyneema itself is UV resistant (which is why it's used in boating). The UV only penetrates a very shallow distance. You'll likely have abrasion demanding a replacement of this wear item long before UV would have mattered (10+ years).

TRE makes no mention of using Dyneema on their site that I have seen. Maybe I missed it. From what I read they only mention using 12 strand UHMWPE.

I am not sure either but I can tell you in a industrial setting that their stuff is impressive. Even wear or abrasion. I work with some VERY abrasive materials and it holds up 50 times to nylon and probably double what a chain will last (I usually toss the chains for safety when I see stretched links)

That makes no sense when you don't use a wide "tree saving" strap for the very same reason the nylon sheath doesn't protect a winch rope from the rocks.

Nope - I keep a cover on the whole affair. Sun here is brutal, my TRE thimble isn't red anymore, its pink!

Tell me about it. I'm more than 5000ft closer to the sun than you are. Still no need to cover the winch rope.

My CJ winch had a kydex cover. No need for tape on those items.

UV protected!

I do need to protect my TJ winch and line though the more I think of it. So cal sun is also brutal. It is the smart thing to do. I spent a good deal of time to rebuild it, why let the sun eat it again?

Which is precisely why I don't do anodize colors. The only color that does not change when exposed to UV or fade is UV stable black. Everything else fades or changes color.

Does it have to make sense to you? Tell me why if so.

My opinion differs from yours (obviously). If this is just a oneway thread where only your opinion matters, say so. I will simply not participate or share my opinion. It is all good bro, no hurt feelings!
