Winch rope recommendations

So found a Warn 9.5xp this weekend, yes bought it!!...has the original steel cable, but also came with a new synthetic rope. anyone have any experience with this item? I know the go-to is the TRE setup with thimble, but thats just shy of $300... this is brand new in the box...and in hand..is the one I have worth loading up or no? This is the only thing I could find on it...

My first synthetic was a cheap one off Amazon, might be the same brand even. It did fine for while I ran it and the only reason I stopped was because I wanted to run a safety thimble and when I cut the line it wasn't a cable I could do a bury splice in. It was just a sheath on a dyneema-ish rope that when compared to what I replaced it with felt vastly different.

So it's likely fine for a while but I would recommend planning on an upgrade eventually though to a reputable brand.

People talk allot about brands, it's all very similar. Don't think any off road vendor sells anything but Chinese crap. Castro Bargains sells dyneema, SK-75 for a good price on ebay. I'm no fan of these off road vendors marking up the price of Chinese crap. What does good or bad UHMWPE feel like? I guess you have to break some to know.

This double-braid style dyneema has had several failures in marine use and industry has moved away from it. Single-braid just looks like the inner part of this photo. Double braid makes it impossible to inspect for damage and it's more expensive, and is much harder to splice.

The wire cable thats on it hasn't even been unspooled yet...so really im thinking of keeping that on there... while getting the funds prioritized for the TRE system vs taking new wire cable off and putting on an interim... I think it may be a good idea to check out and lubricate the wire...its been sitting for awhile...go from there...

If the wire cable is unused make sure you fully unspool and reel it back in under load to get tight wraps on the drum.

I'm with @Gollywomper. Pull the cable and run what you have until you can save for better rope. Unless you plan on doing some extremely hard pulls, it will be fine. Plus, this will give you a practice run at spooling rope. You can always text me and I'll be happy to lend a hand! (y)

Roger, got it....Was going to have the thimble pre-installed with the thimble from TRE when I do...

You'll get more for your steel cable if you sell it unused. At least that's what I told myself when I pulled it off and bought synthetic. It's still hanging on the wall waiting for me to list it for sale
