Prepping to sell my 2002 Jeep Wrangler

The TJ has been on a steady incline the last few years. That’s not really over priced anymore if the tub and frame are in decent shape and not rusted through. Rust is the biggest issue to avoid IMO.
That's why I'm looking at the rot spot where one of the body mounts are. The Frame is virtually in the best condition I've seen in my area. Everyone else either has frame patches or there are bad spots. I wonder how much of a price increase I could put on it if I were to fix the rot. If it cost me 500 dollars to fix, could I raise the asking price my 1000?

Relatively over used unmodded jeep tjs with a 4.0 auto go for 9kish in my area. Needless to say, they are over priced in my local market because I live 10 minutes from a very big off road park

That's why I'm shooting for 10k with mine. I really do believe that all my jeep needs is some good tlc and a little love and I could hit that price point.
Wash it good and remove the angry grill. 🥳 You know better than we do, what Jeeps in your area are worth. I live in a rich college town where people have more money than sense. Works well for me when selling Jeeps.

Keep in mind that mods don't necessarily add value to the average market. Most buyers want a stock Jeep they can build, not someone's hacked up project. Not saying yours is, but it's a reason a lot of people steer clear of anything modded, so factor that into the price. Fixing leaks and a cracked windshield will help a lot more than newer seats, etc. I also wouldn't touch the frame. Keep it like it is so it's presented in its current condition. Anything that looks recently painted or messed with can scare off people who might otherwise be interested in a modded Jeep.

It may not raise your price, but it would help to get your asking price instead of a negotiation item for the buyer.

Interesting thoughts about the frame. On the other note of mods. The only "true" mods done to my wrangler were the lift and tires. Everything was in the boat of "oh shit, something is broke or breaking, I need to buy a replacement" and I got a better than oem replacement piece for the jeep. Example: the Currie correctlync steering set up. I also got two new balljoints and steering knuckles as well as new disc brakes and I have an track bar that I bought that didn't need to be installes

I buy and resell these as a hobby in addition to owning a couple.

You’ve done good by naming a target price- And that gets you a goal-

You’re gonna have to ask yourself what you’re willing to put into it to accomplish that- Because the Delta is all that matters and if you put in 4000 to get 12,000 you might as well have sold it for 8000 like it is.

My take away from the original post is that the TJ is a little bit rough- I’m not criticizing your ride I’m just going by the information your supplied-

Pictures really are helpful when it comes to cosmetics and judging overall condition- They can also get you in a lot of trouble when somebody post the new Jeep you got on the Internet before your wife knows about it, but I digress.

From what you’re describing I would make sure it’s very clean, Fix the windshield And if you can do anything substantial about the damage around the mount that you described that’s going to keep someone from freaking out-

Basically you want good wiper blades and everything to be there, No wires hanging down no missing fuses or door straps.

Most likely someone’s going to buy that for a build or a Trail jeep and they’re not looking for perfection, Put the least in it you can sell it for the lowest price you’re comfortable with and move it as quick as you can is what I would tell my son.

I would also tell him if my 19 mm socket is not returned by the end of the day I’m gonna hunt him down. But that’s another story.

...and not saying you're that guy, but for god sakes, don't post photos like your Avatar in your for sale add. I see it all the time.

Just because old timers refuse to pay what TJs are going for now days compared to what they bought their TJ for 20 years ago doesn't mean they're over priced. There are no good clean un molested daily drivable under 100k miles TJs under 10k anywhere.

1. Un molested
2. Under 100k miles
3. $10,000 or under

You can only pick two.

I would repair the potential safety issues, windsheild, exhaust to rear, body mount. Anything that you are thinking of doing cosmetically should trigger a buyer's senses to look deeper to see what you are hiding with all the new paint and polish.

Also, any and all responses here are irrelevant... This thread is worthless without pics

I'm at work right now. I'll have to upload some pictures tomorrow

Here are some pictures of the jeep today

This rust is significant, and will require thousands of dollars, or serious amounts of hours to repair. The frame is cracked, and the torque box it basically gone at that body mount.

I think $5k might be a stretch for this jeep...

The bottom circle isn't a cracked frame. That's a gap spot between the skid plate and the bottom of the frame. Must be the angle of the picture I took. There's a lot of gunk there I could get out with a pick if i took the time.

No, I see the gap... the crack is along the radius of the frame rail. I hate the bad news too, but that frame is poo...

Thank you for the input on this. I know my jeep and it has been that way for as long as I've had it. I was worried about the same thing until I looked into it. But I can promise you it's not a cracked frame

Here is the same spot that I just took a screw drive through. As you can see, yes the frame is rusty along this area, but that line you thought was a crack is not there any longer. When I was off reading the jeep occasionally, I would continue to gout this section out to keep it from piling up with gunk. Obviously i got lazy when i bought another car

I'll stand by my initial assessment... $5k is the most you could get. All I'd do to sell it, would be a good deep cleaning to get rid of the cake underneath and the pollen residue from the paint/top.

I'll stand by my initial statement that you're wrong about a cracked frame, especially with proof. Thanks for the input about the forum.

I guess I'll be the asshole...your jeep isn't worth 10k it's not worth 5k..on the west coast that is a parts jeep with the tub and frame being scrapped.

You seem to have some rose colored glasses when you did your assessment of the jeeps condition. With that said there is a sucker born every minute but anybody that is more than a little informed is going to run.
