What did you do to your TJ today?

Went out to the jeep around 5:30 a.m. to go on a lake trip for my doggy and found my jeep vandalized. All recovery gear was stolen and they damaged my dash trying to pry open the glove box. Stereo is also useless.

The Airbag area down to the glove box is all trashed. I've been driving around looking for my army surplus (recover bag) on a homeless person but this isn't going to work out.

Going to call up thrift stores to give them the heads up. It's best I don't find who did this bc there will be very little mercy.

That’s sucks. That’s the biggest reason I don’t keep any of my recovery gear in the Jeep. I just know somebody would slice open the soft top even though the doors are always unlocked and snag the bags.

Sorry man, that is such a violation. People have very little respect for anything any more. If they can put their hands on it, whatever "it" is must be theirs and screw the person they are taking it from. Police don't care even if you caught it on camera. Only thing you can do is make it harder for them to put their hands on your stuff than it is to put their hands on the next guys stuff. I had a bag of tools stolen out of the back of my Jeep at a Park-N-Ride, still ticks me off to think about it.

Yeah man I've gotten used to the soft top being down 99% of the time so the gear was more or less safe with the tailgate locked.

I put the soft top up yesterday because a friend wanted more sun protection. It's my fault for not pulling the items from the back when I got home yesterday evening.

yea man I understand. My dad had tools etched with his name on them for 35 years (From working at GM). He gave them to me and I took them with my in my truck when doing an internship back in 2010. On my birthday while super poor (i used a credit card to pay for school credits to do the internship) someone smashed my window stole the tools along with other things and then keyed the side of my truck as a nice little present to me. I will never be ok with that and it's been 12 years.

Currently, the mangled Jeep dash is an unsightly reminder of how I allowed someone to fuck me and someone was happy to oblige.

I’ve seen A couple of the insta-trunks for sale online. With the rear door locked it’s decently protected. At least the stuff is out of sight.

I use one. It does limit the storage space, but at least there’s some protection. Too bad we have to resort to that.

I hate thieves.

In progress. Hit the skid plate yesterday. Paint seems to match pretty well.

It does suck. A thief is particularly anger provoking. My only additional comment is I don’t think it’s a recent development. As a student (rudimentary) of history, it seems all of the deficiencies of humanity are well documented and consistent throughout recorded time. Not a very optimistic comment, I know. Sorry.

It isn’t a recent development but I do feel like is becoming more prevalent. Or maybe I just grew up in area not yet as touched by this. When I was a kid our home was never locked. I got home from school before my parents from work but never carried a key or felt unsafe. Heck my mom dropped her car keys onto the floor near gas pedal when she parked at home so would know where they were. Now even though is still a quiet rural area my parents vehicles have been theft target, my father had to install extra security for his shop and farm implement, and has been an instance where they felt threatened while in there home.

The Government and the Police will not protect you. Buy guns and ammo.

Sold it! And to be honest I will not miss it, this heap has fought me every step of the way. We still own another TJ, that we have given to the wifes dad, so you can’t ban me just yet.
Not sure what we will replace ours with yet, but it will be another Jeep, probably a JK rubicon. Bring on the hate!! :ROFLMAO:

Today I installed the windshield frame header weatherstrip and put the freshly insulated hardtop back; took it for a quick ride to the gas station and noticed a whole lot of quiet. I hope it all holds true tomorrow during my drive to Portland, OR.

I'm about to restore and install my first (new to me) hard top. Did you post anywhere about the insulation and weather stripping you chose?

Registration and smog check is due, and my exhaust sounded like there were marbles bouncing around inside. So I welded on a new catalytic converter.

Those couple of nuggets of honeycomb laying next to the old cat is what was left inside. So if anyone wants a hollowed out catalytic converter, I got one! Ha

I dont blame you...when it stops being 'fun' and more of a chore then sell and move onto another project..... I had a 1962 Triumph Herald about 25 years ago...loved that car but when I started spending more time under it than in it I had to let her go. RIP stinky !!

I think I did, but in case I didn't, it's the Noice 80mil insulation and the OEM (Overly Expensive Mopar) weather strip piece. I'm still looking for the carpet that will be glued to the insulation for a finished look.

Sometimes you have to know when to step away, so good for you. There's always another Jeep and you can come back, if and when you're ready. As for a later model, when you consider we spend, by far, more time on the road than off, something a little more modern isn't necessarily a bad thing.
