Requesting blessings for my wheel and tire choices

No offence to anyone here but I gotta be honest...reviewing the 'average' type of person I see in Jeeps these days gave me pause when I was deciding on Jeep vs the few other options for lightweight/small street legal off road vehicles. I'm also not a Mopar person at ALL...but here I am :)

I think you should get the Patagonias and come back and give us a report in a couple years.

lol, I think I know what you mean, maybe, but could you elaborate anyway? I never really considered the community before getting a Jeep. For me it was just about the vehicle and it was a childhood dream come true. Then I noticed all the drama... Jeep club drama, LOTS of girl drama club or no club, and good Lord the opinions... so many strong opinions (watching @Jerry Bransford try to explain to hardheaded people on a Facebook group recently that a steering stabilizer does not fix death wobble was entertaining...and saddening). Is that the kind of thing you're referring to, or something else?

Now, I don't know if it is any different in other 4x4 communities. I have a feeling they all are full of their strong prevailing opinions. Groupthink is hard to resist. But I do wonder if, say, Toyota folks have the same drama levels. 😅

I've seen some Toyota drama with the group I wheeled with in socal. It was mostly FJ Cruisers. There was a situation where my TJ had to pull a power wagon off the trail because none of the FJs had a tow hitch. Cause the hitch bumper ruined the look. The opinions seemed to be more gear and looks based. Toyota parts are unreasonably expensive

Ive seen first hand the way patagonias behave on the trail. Similarly built jeeps, on the same obstacles, with the only real difference being tires (MTRs vs the Patagonias). Patagonias struggled (wheel spin, lack of grip, chunking) where the MTRs walked right over. They are also not a very good looking tire in my opinion.

You could drive down to Tampa and pick up the five like new 33/12.5x15 Cooper Discoverer Pro STTs that I have for sale for $800. :)

Even if you are not interested in mine, I would urge you to at least look at the STT Pros, as they work very well in the conditions that you are describing.

@nondem, this is a WAY better deal. Cooper STT Pro's all the way!

P.s. Yes, I've had a set. I'd also recommend BFG KM3 and Maxxis Razr MT. Make sure and get Load C tires.

Well, I try to keep my mouth shut and just get my answers BUT since you asked...The online Jeep community seems pretty harsh to newcomers. Like we should all know all the ins and outs about Jeeps before asking. A lot of the information IS available with a search but sometimes you don't know what to search for or just want a second opinion OR just want to revisit the answers you found. I've frequented Tech/Cave diving forums for decades and I THOUGHT they were the kings of hardassery but nope. It's like some people have pent up anger/contempt looking to vent or something. It's not a big deal and well worth it to get access to the true gems of wisdom from certain people who really do know what they are talking about have to offer. I mean, the point is discussion anyway... isn't it? Pretty much everything related has been discussed at some point so ANY question is going to be something already covered.

So about Jeepers...I almost bought a FJ actually because I found one newer/cheaper than my TJ but they have a much smaller aftermarket and are arguably less capable w/o lots more extreme mods. It appears most of the jeepers I see around my area besides the college-girls(God Bless them) and such are Mall-Crawler types, the Amazon Jeep Accessory-Kings etc...I told my wife before buying my TJ that it seemed like most of the Jeep owners I have encountered are either Idiots, Jerks or some combo of the two. I had and still have concerns w/being associated w/the types that seem to gravitate to Jeeps. I would say that doesn't apply to the folks here in the forum(just to be clear). My buddy and I sold our SideBySides to get Jeeps so we could ride more places legally...so far I'm really glad I did.

I have done every single mod/repair myself since I got it and it's refreshing to have a vehicle that allows that. I could have bought a JK for less money but they are too far from being a Jeep and too close to being a Fiat :)

The font they use is pretty awful and childish feeling.

I certainly agree...and the tread is oddball too kinda...but I'm not at all concerned w/looks. Long term wear is less important too since this isn't a DD. I bet I do less than 1000 miles a year in this Jeep...but they will be brutal miles :)
I don't think the chunking will be a huge problem other then the few times a year I travel to Windrock.

I think one thing that annoys people on this forum is people who come on here and request advice but then reject it on the basis of some reviews out there or some 4x4 YouTube channel. It becomes apparent that all they wanted was affirmation to begin with (e.g. why do you need people to bless your wheel and tire choice?). I will tell you that the people in here actually care about Jeep's and many of them actually use them in the harshest environments in the world and one of them is more knowledgeable than anyone in the world on these Jeeps (see my signature below). For the most part people here are willing to answer a question for the 30th time, but when the OP just wants affirmation or they come in saying stuff like, "But this guy who has worked on Jeep's his whole life said I should get 4.10 gears and y'all say get 5.13." Or things like "My mechanic said I should get a new steering stabilizer to fix my DW, and y'all say that's wrong." Fine then, get 4.10 gears or buy a new steering stabilizer if you want to believe that nonsense. Nobody in here is making money off of their advice, they have way more experience, it is fairly unanimous (we have a few quibbles), and it has saved many of us thousands of dollars wasted on BS products. At this point some of us just say to those people, "Do what you want. It's your Jeep." I don't think the response on here is unreasonable. Everyone is required to do their own research.

Pishaw - if you want to see flamewars, rude people, and just about all types of asshattery on an online forum, try one of the several Piano forums! I've never seen such a hostile environment, and that's just talking about pianos! The forums that also have a politics allowed area are even worse!

After my one summer with Patagonias, all I can say is that you are wasting your time and money on tires made from crumbly reconstituted rubber dust that have terrible traction in every scenario you throw at them. They made my Jeep worse, compared to all other tires I have had on it.

One big issue with people reporting their experience with any big purchase is they want to validate it. So for those that aren't analytical (which is an awful lot of people) they are willing to accept the bad because otherwise it invalidates their expensive purchase and they have to admit they may have made a mistake by not listening. Even worse are people that think they are analytical, but really aren't.
