Wildman's TJ is getting a face lift

I have been working on the painting and such over the last few days just didn't take any pictures. I had really bad runs on the one corner and worked on sanding them down but then took it down a bit too much, so I've got to spray some base coat again. Then on the other corner I had that damn dog hair, but I was able to sand it out. I'd also had some runs on it but then as it sat over the last two days the clear orange peeled on me or I just hadn't seen it, I'm not sure which. So I've sanded the whole area with the orange peel back down and just need to tape off both corners and then spray some base coat and then clear.

Then I can flip everything and paint the other side and I'll be done with the items that need to be painted White. Then I can move all of that and start on the parts that are getting painted Black.

I finally gave up on trying to get this corner painted and stripped it back down to bare metal.

Everything I tried just made it worse.

So now I've got primer on it and I'm going to put down the first coat of White in a few.

Then I'll shot it with clear and hope I don't get the runs I had before.

Two coats of white and now let it dry for about 45 minutes and I'll spray the White on it. Used the last of my White paint to fix this so I'm waiting until Monday since UPS don't deliver to me on weekend.

Fixed the couple of small mistakes on the other corner and it's painted too. I'll shoot both with clear and then call it a night.

OK got the clear on and this time I don't have any runs that I could find.

The touched up spots on the other corner all turned out great.

But I got ANOTHER hair in the clear. DAMN I can't win.

And when I took the tape off I noticed this little line that didn't have paint in it right near the fuel filler hole.

But the spot where that other hair was at is fixed.

So moving on. As I keep saying it's a Trail Jeep and it wasn't gunna be perfect.

Well I did get two runs in the corner when I clear coated it. I'll wait like @Mike_H suggested a week or so for the clear to harden before I attempt to remove them.

Here's my screw up where the tape had been.

Good news on the other corner is that the hair was right on the surface and I was able to scrap it out with a fingernail.

And not like I didn't already have enough to do the main lights in my garage stopped working. And NOPE it wasn't as easy as resetting the circuit breaker.

I was going to work on the motorhome today so once I'm done there I'll have to work on the lights.

Got the lights fixed. Was just the light switch giving up the ghost. It's only 16 years old so I guess I got my money's worth.

More White paint arrives tomorrow so I can finish off the fenders and corners and then I'll start on all the parts that are getting painted Black. Once all that is painted, I can start to reassemble it. I've still got some welding to do on the axles and they need to be painted. But getting close to when I will be turning that key for the first time.

Painted is laid down and drying. I've got a few spots I want to fix prior to spraying the clear.

If I can get these parts done today I will finish painting the frame tomorrow. Then I'll paint the Savvy backers and will be done with things that are White.
Then I'll start on the parts that are getting done in Black.

WELL SHIT........

I was DONE and did one of my amputee tricks and tripped and of course knocked over the fenders. The Jeep kept me from falling onto the floor which was a good thing but FUCK I was DONE and the clear had turned out really good this time.

The corners are done and so is the lower tie in piece. I'll move them out of the way tomorrow and then fix my fuck up.

Shit happens I guess and it isn't anything I can't fix it's just time. Just pissed OFF that it happened. So I quit for the day. It's 105* outside right now.

This is just one of the joys of being an amputee.

Doesn't just happen to amputees Rick. I was finishing up a final coat of clear on a fender and somehow managed to pull it off the stand with the air hose. Not one of my finer moments for sure! :cautious:

Just pisses me off. The paint had turned out really good this time and I was DONE.. Was going to clean things up and come in and relax. But like you said it happens to all of us. I'll sand everything down tomorrow and start over. Glad I bought extra White paint this time.

And I'm not sure yet if I'm going to have to repaint the tub on the Jeep. Since I'm already doing all this work I guess I could watch some videos on how to prep fiberglass and paint that heat reduction hood and run it too.
