Correct Tire Pressure for On-Road

Lightly loaded TJ w/BFG KM3 35's. So, what pressure is good for highway driving? I don't trust the door jamb sticker anymore. I don't do much pavement but I just need an idea where it should be when I do.

I run the same tire at 25psi on the street. That's the recommended pressure on this forum and it rides very well. 👍
 
For my 35's I run 24 psi around town when my TJ is lightly loaded, 26 psi when it's fully loaded and on the highway.

I’ve learned here these small differences actually do make it ride better.

But, when I see posts that specific….I always think of Michael Keaton in Mr Mom, guys asks did you used 220 to wire the house.

“220…221, whatever it takes”. Ha.

Just got KM3 35’s yesterday on my 05, and Discount wouldn’t put less than 32. Still drove home really nice(alignment advice and ZJ steering etc ) barely have to touch the wheel. Dropped to 26 and really rides well.

And yes, I have 30/35 combo, but Dana 44 F&R on the FedEx truck with Chromoly delivering Monday, ha.
 
Thanks...that's actually about where I ran the 31's that came on this Jeep. I was looking to go as low as possible w/risking heat buildup issues.
Glad to learn I was on the right track.
 
i have pondered the reason behind this type of question.

would this answer be different if 1 asked the best tire pressure for tread wear and fuel mileage on the road vs ride comfort, effectively using the lower pressure to act as more shock absorption?

would it not be more better to have shocks that ride good on the tire sidewall recommended pressure? eliminating the use of tire for shocks would help all around performance, no?

just wonderin, does this hold any water?

granted the tire rating now comes into play based on the TJ's weight. so E's would not be part of this game.

The pressure on the sidewall is for the max load for that tire

You cannot use the tire pressure on the sidewall. That is absolute Max for that tire.
The load rating plays a huge part of the equation. Higher load rating means stiffer sidewall, which means lower pressure needed for a good contact patch. Chalk test is the most accurate method to determine correct pressure.

where you source your 44’s from? looking for some for mine.
 
I bought them from a guy on here. He mentioned what his plan was a year ago, and I asked if what he was doing with his Rubicon 44's. So got lucky, and he's put a beefier custom setup in his.

thinking about new ones from east coast gear myself.
 
With those truck tires, you could probably deflate to 0 lbs. and they wouldn't go flat . . . . . just kidding! :cool: 🛻

Everyone in the jeep forums seems to think that, but it isn't true. I guess that's what happens when the same b.s. is repeated ad nauseum on every forum. After awhile people believe it without thinking for themselves. :)
 
i run 33 12.5 15 with 24 psi.

And I did the chalk test and ended up at the same pressure. Throw back from my JK days. Not sure what made me do that.

Seems to be the sweet spot for fuel economy and comfort. Tire wear is little harder to tell.
