Grill, smoker, or griddle for camping?

Most of the time I just use the camp fire (hobo packets or bring a grate) or a backpacking stove. If I'm cooking for more I'll bring my Coleman two burner with a 10" pan or two.

I don't know about CO but here in WA & OR & ID & CA there is burn ban. No open fires or charcoal fires are allowed and they won't lift it until Sept or Oct or even Nov if it is a dry fall.

I need to do something like that, but my RV has a frame mounted non-removeable tank. It's a pain to get it refilled. I probably need to just bring a spare 20lb with an adapter to the Blackstone.

My camper has an outdoor kitchen that was equipped with a propane quick connect fitting.

So far I've been lucky this year to have them in CO, it's certainly a trip dependent consideration.

Burn ban went into effect here 2 weeks ago. I've seen it as early as the end of June and as late as the middle of Aug.

man the blackstone is the way to go ! no pot and pans needed just paper towels, water and oil !!!! now when i go camping I'm out for 8 weeks and carry my 36in. but I cook for alot of people, if your only cooking for 1 or 2 the single or double burner will be fine.

My pro tip is pre crack your eggs into a water bottle or a shaker bottle and keep that in your refrigerator instead of whole eggs or a carton of eggs that leaks when smashed.

Don’t take this, it’ll smash

This also works for pancake mix. I use old ketchup bottles and just shake and squirt.

Well based on all of you that have liked your Blackstone grills I ordered one. Be interesting to see how I like it.

If your just going to carry one , the griddle is more versatile IMO.

I can cook almost anything on the blackstone you can cook on a grille , fire or Coleman stove. only thing it doesn't do is the johnsonville Italian sausages because there curved, but hotdogs or brats it does good, the curve on the Italians just doesn't allow for contact with the surface. I carry a small camp grille that goes over the fire for those if necessary

I'll post up once I get to use it a few times. I ordered the hose so I can hook it up to my RV too.

I use a few different things based on how much space I have for that trip and who's doing the cooking. My wife and I cook differently. I have the basic, ubiquitous Coleman 2 burner propane stove they're great. I made the mistake of buying a Coleman 3 burner stove (exactly the same but with 3 burners) before that and none of the burners seemed to be in the right location. I also have a Coleman 1 burner stove and use it the most.

I have a Char-Broil grill that I like but it takes up a bit of space. It's great for a lot of things but boiling water isn't one of them.

I recently picked up a propane fire pit. There are a lot of pros and cons ... wood vs. propane fire pits. I have one of each and find the propane pit a bit easier to cook on. Jeep also makes a really neat cover for the one I have! 🤣

which one did you order ? i left my 36 in at my brothers house where I leave my camper and am planning on getting another one for my house, looking at the 3 burner 28 in. if you regularly cook for 4 or more the 36in is the way to go.

I usually just use one of those single burners that sit directly on top of the cylinder, with a base for the cylinder to stabilize it. I boil water or put a cast iron on top of that. I like this single burner Blackstone idea though. It would take up more space but I have an LJ now. 🤣

For anyone using a Coleman propane stove, these are good eliminating the awkward rigid tube for hooking it up to a 1 lb. bottle. I connect mine to a 5 lb. bottle and find these to be much easier. It basically allows you to locate the bottle away from the stove. These a Coleman specific. There is also one available for Bradstone stoves and I suspect others too.

22" w/Hood and grease trap in the back. It's only me & maybe one other person so I didn't see a need for anything larger.

your going to love it so much you will use it at home ! buy lots of paper towels. and like I said season it good and then cook bacon on it 1st, I think something with all that bacon grease helps coat it and makes a more nonstick surface. get the aluminum pans to put in the grease catch pan ....

You'll love it. After watching a suggestion on some video, I've been using Grape seed oil. Supposedly it works better in higher heat, like a griddle, than other oils.

Watch this to get started. You can spend hours watching other videos to get some recipe ideas.

Blackstone is very popular right now, but there are other good brands available too.

I have a 22” Blackstone too. It’s pretty large, no trouble cooking for 6 people. I went back and forth between the 22 and the 17 inch. Finally decided on 22 so I have two burners with more control. It does burn through the 1 lb tanks right quick though. I need to plumb in a QD fitting to my coach’s LP system. It has a 60 lb tank, so no biggie there.

You know it's straight rolling through the propane when the cylinder turns white and sticks to your hand.
