Questions about thermostat change

Anyone find a quality thermostat ??? Stant is now Motorad, Motorad has always sucked (I’ve given them a few chances, they’re unstable at best) …

Edelbrock’s made in USA is now Chinese. Mopar is also Motorad. Robert Shaw is gone and Mr Gaskets Chinese copy is junk.

Flowkooler states they sell a Robert Shaw. Or should I give Motorad another chance ???

I haven't come across anything to suggest stant is now motorad. Source?

Even if it's true, just because they've been acquired doesn't mean their factories got shuttered and their designs incinerated. It rarely makes sense to buy a competitor just to shut them down, usually it's done to acquire their facilities, equipment, and intellectual property.

Well that sucks. Still, the fact that you can still buy a Stant superstat gives me hope that they just moved the capacity to another facility. I won't don the sack cloth and ashes until I hear of someone buying a superstat and getting something that says motorad on it.

Umm … I have bought Superstats, multiple times and it had Motorad on them … Motorad makes the Ultrastat which looks like a Superstat with Motorad on one of the legs …

Last one I bought definitely did not say motorad, but that was in January 2021.

INTERESTING! I bought a Mopar back in 2018 for the new to me TJ, it was from the dealer sealed in a mopar bag, but inside was a Motorad, what I really didn’t care for was part of the valve/piston was plastic. It went back to the dealer, I didn’t even install it and I got a Stant Superstat on Amazon. I did t know at the time Stant was in the process of being bought out !

Did Motorad fire you? You’re on multiple threads getting wound up that they bought Stant and make Mopar apparently.

What are you wanting everyone to do? Like a crusade to crush motorad?

Lol … it happens, man tantrum every time one of my favorite things goes bye bye … restaurant’s, brewery’s, manual transmissions, car parts, wheeling trails, camping spots, landmarks.

Honestly ive given them a few chances and didn’t like what I saw, all my hobby cars seem to all use the same dang thermostat so I get a little OCD about finding a “good one” but I also gained a lot of perspective … Plus I live in AZ, it’s hot.

I gotta Mopar and Motorad Ultrastat en-route … I have some experimentation to do here shortly.

No crusade, just someone to say the new king of England is not that bad of a guy, give him a chance, worked for me. Lol

He is probably like the rest of us and trying to make his hard earned money go as far as it can towards quality parts. It sucks when a brand you like goes away. I get it.

At certain point though it's time to make a decision and move on. Them motorads might not be all that bad anymore.

I did buy a Mopar in 2018, for $27, got it home and opened it up and it said motorad. Having no interest in paying $27 for a $4 parts store thermostat, I ordered a Stant from Amazon and returned the Mopar. That was for my 99 TJ.

Then in 2021 I was going through my newly acquired LJ and put another Stant in...again was definitely not a motorad.

I don't have anything against motorad. That's what I used before I came around here and everybody sung the praises of Stant. I've never had a motorad, or any thermostat, fail. I've always just replaced them as preventative maintenance if I was replacing the coolant, water pump, or had the housing off for any other reason.

I have an older Stant superstat and bought another off Amazon to compare them In case anyone is interested.

Newer Stant (with MOTORAD stamped on one of the legs) on the left and the older one on the right.

Is the one on the left supposed to be a SuperStat? Stant makes non-Superstat thermostats too.

The label on the box says it is, but I didn’t see anything on the box itself.

The Amazon link says it is, but I don’t know.

Superstat ® Premium Thermostat https://a.co/d/26HkEvx

both labeled superstat and same part number, so I think so.

If you look up a Stant Superstat and a MotoRad Ultrastat on Amazon, they have literally the exact same photos, and they appear to be the "new one". One of which is this, where you can see the MotoRad label.

the superstat I put in my LJ in February 2021 definitely looked like the one on the right, and did not say MotoRad. This is very disappointing.

It's the wrong thermostat, it always has been. They don't make a SuperStat for the 4.0L and just hope most people don't understand the point of the jiggle valve. Stant does make a thermostat with the correct valve in it but they only suggest using it in the 2.5L Jeep because they want to sell the more expensive SuperStat to 4.0 owners. Why people continue to get the wrong thermostat and then even go so far as to drill a hole in it is beyond me. Motorad makes a nice high performance thermostat for our Jeep which actually is high performance and has the valve Jeep specified, part number 2000195. Allot like the Hayden 2771 fan clutch the 45359 is simply the wrong part. Too bad people can't look at the obvious differences between these parts and accept that.

Fwiw, I've used the superstat, without a jiggle valve, without drilling a hole, and have never had issues getting air out of the system when following the factory filling procedure. Maybe it's just luck, or maybe I don't have objections with it taking a bit longer since I only do it once every few years.

When you refer to factory filling, do you refer to create a vacuum and then suck in the coolant the right the valve?

Why not to just to buy the Mopar one? The Israeli factory that makes it, is supplying the the car manufacturers all over the world, not just as a replacement, but as something that comes from the factory.
It also has the jiggle, so you don’t need to drill anything whatsoever.

No, I just fill it up, start and run til it reaches operating temp, let it cool, then top off the coolant through the radiator cap. May have to add a little to the reservoir after the next couple of drives.
