Tea kettle under the hood

I sort of gave up on it after disassembling and cleaning the TB several times, and spraying water looking for leaks. I had other problems to deal with.

It seems to be getting a bit better on its own, or maybe I’m just getting used to it.

Sorry no real help for you. Maybe it just needs that bit of carbon to seal leaks around the plate.

I had a pretty loud tea kettle whistle on an 04 LJ. When I would drive by, people would literally stop what they were doing and turn and look. Kind of embarrassing. I replaced vacuum lines, the throttle body gasket, cleaned the throttle body, the IAC, replaced the serpentine belt, the tensioner...all to no avail. What made it difficult to diagnose was the minute I would come to a complete stop, the whistle would go away. That made it pretty hard to pinpoint where the noise was coming from. I finally figured out that it was the exhaust manifold. I tightened the front two bolts, upper and lower and the rear two, upper and lower (next to the firewall) and then took it for a drive. Pure joy. It was gone. Good luck.

my last 97 started the same thing after I changed the exhaust manifold. it would whistle like hell when I accelerated . drove me nuts wouldn't do it at idle. ended up being one of the black/white vacuum check valves had split. it was about center of firewall behind the valve cover ! this isn't the exact one but it looks like that, i think it was about $5.

Mine did it and was found to be a leak at the throttle rod that the flap in the throttle body attaches too.

That may not be an option for me:

Although my whistle is coming from the bottom edge of the throttle plate. At idle it’s a moderate whistle and it gets louder with the tiniest bit of pressure on the throttle cable/gas pedal.

With the air intake off, I can eliminate the whistle by blocking a half inch or so of the gap between the throttle plate and throttle body wall.

I’m not sure there’s supposed to be any airflow through there at idle, but apparently I have some.
