Where are you mounting your on-board air compressors?

Where do you keep yours?
When I'm using my portable Viair I keep it in a bag and just place it on the ground so it gets plenty of air circulation. Even there it still gets hot and shuts off on occasion. My main source of "air" for my tires however is my 10 lb. CO2 tank mounted on the rear of my TJ.

Worrying about underhood 12v air compressors getting so hot that they shut off is like worrying the sky will fall.

If it ever happens, which is highly unlikely, just raise the hood, let it cool, and carry on.

Its my intention to raise the hood other than for initial tank pressurization. I've also thought about a fan blowing over the thing. *shrug*

I have the ARB single mounted on the ABS tray in the engine bay. I use it to air up my 35s and it does fine. A bit slow but it has never shut off.

I’ll be buying a co2 tank.
If someone in the trail 4, 5 rigs in front of me gets a flat and no one can supply them air. It will be easy for me to run up there with the tank and supply them with air. I can use it around the house. You can clean out your guns with the air. Doesn’t have a duty cycle so no waiting on the compressor to be ready. You can also run air tools if needed. No moving parts unlike a compressor many things can fail overtime and if I remember correctly a co2 tank is faster at inflating tires.

I removed my driver side fender support below the brake booster and made a custom mount for a rather large compressor. It's tucked completely out of the way essentially in the support. You can fit a huge compressor down there if you take the time to remove the fender. It's a Puma and if it ever fails I'll probably replace it with one of those 300 lpm Napa/Chinese deals. They are top dog these days if you can find them.

Currently the ARB dual in mounted to the back of my tuffy box just behind the passenger front seat.

I placed a heat shield on the side to keep the heat from the cats getting to the closest compressor. Plus it is open below so when the hood is open there will be a convection so the heat can rise.

That’s where mine is as well.. ARB.

Chuck is mounted on the passenger corner of the front light bar. Hose is easily long enough to make it to both back tires.

Keep in mind that 12v compressors get HOT and they'll shut off on you when airing up once they get hot enough. Mounting them inside the engine compartment can cause them to get hot more easily and shut off more often while you're trying to air up.
+1
I had this issue with the cheap compressor I installed in one of my JKs. The ARB seems fine. The old one in my last JK sat higher up where the ARB is sitting pretty low with a bit of open air around it. The air filter and mounted in the driver side footwell so at least it draws dry air cooler than the engine bay.

I leave mine in a bag, I use it between both Jeeps, and can easily bring it to use if needed anywhere else.

Similar to other set-ups. No tank, just the compressor. Not in the second picture, but I've since installed a pressure relief valve on the hose. I keep a coiled hose and the rest of the accessories in a MOLLE bag on the back of the driver's seat.
