Is this a reasonable price for this LJ Rubicon?

I’ve got my eye on a 05 LJR in my area. 129K miles, 6 speed, Black, soft top. According to the owner it’s clean title, rust free, and everything works as it should. It’s basically stock with the exception of some aftermarket wheels (look like 17’s) and larger fender flares.

It’s priced at $21,500…. does that sound reasonable?

Only you would know what similar Jeeps sell for in your area. Around here, that's around $4,000 too high.

Get a lot of detailed pics of the frame or go see it in person. People trying to unload their TJ’s/LJ’s and claim they are rust free are not always “rust free.” They are just trying to sell it and will almost always say anything to make that sale.

IMO, finding a rust free TJ/LJ north of Alabama is a pretty tough feat. Go south or go out west to find a rust free frame. Also, check the carfax to see where it lived all it’s life.

When I looked in February around here, I would never have found one at that price. Rust free Sports were selling for that. Rubicons were being snatched up by flippers, adulterated, and selling over $30k. I guess in the end it kind of depends on the condition, and if things were done to it that will be expensive to fix.

i found a TJ rubi 03 auto for 12500....private owner. really wanting to go look at it. i got a PM in for pics of the underside.

This guy is a “jeep dealer”…. what’s odd to me is that he has it priced right around the same as the other standard LJ’s he has. They’re basically all the same price, so it makes me wonder if the LJR has some body defects or something.

Hoping to go look at it next week.

21.5 is high for any of them he's not giving clue to anything but that he wants paid well no matter what you buy.

Ask him for pics of the underside and for the Carfax while you wait.

Be aware that if it is “that nice” it has a huge chance of being sold out from under you before next week.

Also, since he’s a “Jeep dealer”, fingers crossed he hasn't ruined the underside and frame by spray painting under there.

Well, through this discussion about if I should buy, By now your money is worth less, the old jeeps are worth more, a (hopefully few) jeeps where wreaked, stollen, or decommissioned, and probably that jeep has been snatched up. Also remember after 2035 there will be even more competition to buy from Calif. and 2 other states that banned the sale of gas cars. (can not think of a better state to try it) May God Bless;DL

If you are a collector that's a reasonable price. There are LJs for sale in my area $12-15k and with gears and lockers which can be had for under $6k you are miles ahead. The Rubicon package is a collectors edition, none of the parts are worth paying for as take-offs. Some people here on this forum like the NP241OR with the 4:1 ratio and others like the ability to gear the front axle beyond 5.13 or whatever the number is. I'm not on that ship. If you want an LJ and can live with an automatic get a 2004.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and not one person can down play or uplift any advise that any person ask for. The key on advice is difference and from other views.(Although collectors have more money if you have what they are searching for which is usually stock packages) May God Bless;DL
