U-joint squeak, un-greased wheel bearing, or dying front driveshaft?

I had the double Cardan on my front driveshaft fail so I replaced that plus the front universal. After that I had a “thrumming” vibration from about 50 mph up. So I took the driveshaft to a local shop and had it straightened and rebalanced. That made little difference. So I bought a new drive shaft from Shawn. No more vibration.

thankfully I have 0 vibration caused by it. Just a very loud squeak which totally gets the attention of every car in the vicinity lol. Hung the DS up on the frame out of the way and so hopefully im good until parts get here. Tracking says Wednesday evening 🙏

I know this probably isn’t anything new but whenever you run into this you want to do the entire shift and you want to do it soon as possible- If one of these ever fails you could use it as a textbook definition of the word catastrophic- They will practically total at TJ

Another trick you can do sometimes is spray WD-40 on it if that quietens it that tells you that that’s where your problem is but it’s certainly not fix it’s just a way to see what’s going on .

Pulling the shaft is the best way.

yeah i tried using some spray grease and it didnt do anything for me.

Yep, not to mention a press makes it too easy to bend the ears that hold the u-joint.

That's one of the reason I advocate that people use a small hammer, around 16 oz. Because if you have to hit things so hard that you need a 24 oz hammer you're probably going to damage something.

It won’t you have to get something real thin like a penetrant- And at the best it’s only going to work for a minute or so

The cardan is the issue typically

Good on you for getting it worked out
