Hi Folks-

I need to ship my new 2005 TJ/LJ from East Tennessee to Western Montana.

Any recommendations on best shipping option and or vendors? Equally companies to stay clear of.

I plan on shipping the week of November15th, 2021.

Thanks in advance for your ideas and recommendations!

Dave

I’ve used Pilot.
Just use a transportation company that owns their own trucks. Most companies are middlemen and unless you have no set timeline, they would work for a bit less money, but it may “fall off” the transport somewhere in St. Louis.

You need to decide if you want it shipped by an enclosed hauler or a open car hauler- Enclosed will be more money and You will not have a problem finding either through the Internet...Most likely you end up dealing with a private transporter-This is the guy that owns his own truck and car hauler-You will also find a few pretty good sized companies that specialize in transporting collectible and exotic cars.

If you keep coming up blank talk to some local car dealers.

Remember LJ’s won’t get their as fast- they come in about 10” later.

I've used https://reliablecarriers.com/ to move a car a few years ago - probably not the cheapest way to do it but they were good and reliable! Amazing fleet of enclosed big rigs in a high-vis safety Orange.

Don't ship it, drive it! I bought my LJ in Illinois, flew out there with my daughter, and drove it back to CA. It was awesome. So pick a kid or grandkid and take them out to see some of the country. You won't regret it.
Shipping quotes are coming in at about $2,000. Driving costs would be about $800. Looking better all the time! Thanks

I used https://zipautoship.com/ last fall when I shipped from Livingston, MT to Nashville last fall. Cost 1280. I didn't have any problem.

I was really thinking about just flying up there and driving it back but I'm glad I didn't. I think a snow storm was coming through Montana when I would have been there.

WOW - great price. I assume no issues with the transporter?

No I didn't have a problem with the truck. They were a day or two late because I think they hit a deer in Montana. My expectations were that the expected arrival date could fluctuate, which it can when shipping a vehicle.

I get the impression that there aren't many trucks taking that route and that will drive the price up with some quotes

it sure is nice out this way, where in East Tennessee is the Jeep located ?

There is a smaller airport in Knoxville so wouldn't be hard to fly in at all.

Just to close out this thread - in the end, I ended up shipping the Jeep from Knoxville, TN to Montana.

I used U-ship.com and it worked out very, very good.

Thanks Everyone!

I've used A-1 Auto Transport the couple times I've shipped. Twice over the past five years or so and never had any issue. There's plenty of options though. Your best bet is to reach out to a couple of them and see what kind of prices they offer. You're typically in pretty good hands if you deal with one of the more established companies and there's at least five or so that I can think of off the top of my head that have been doing it for a while. It's helpful if you find one that has office locations where you're shipping to and from in case you need to get hold of them for anything.

I recently shipped 3 vehicles from California to Florida and learned to avoid the many brokers that get in the middle of the actual car shipper and customer. Deal directly with the car shipper and life will be a lot better.
