EV thread

BS article or not?

A Tesla owner claimed he is locked out of his $140,000 vehicle after the battery died, and that the electric automaker told him a replacement would cost $26,000.

His 12v battery died, thats why his doors won't open... He also has a separate issue with his HV battery that would cost him 26k to replace. So in a way the headline is making it seem like hes locked out of his car because of the main battery which is false. This is a clickbait article that you fell for.

Never said I believed the headline. Which was the reason for my question.

I don't like being on a motorcycle more than 70 miles anyway and when I looked at the bike articles I did like them and years ago thought maybe about buying 1. There's so much gravel and stuff in my area and honestly I'm kinda with Zorba that those days are behind me. I just find that, besides going slow off-road with a bike, I'd rather be in my Jeep with the doors off than on a bike.

A few years ago my wife and I kinda got back into bikes, so we grabbed a super cheap Honda CB350, which I used to play around with a lot back in the day. I managed to stay upright during my test ride in a monsoon after not riding a motorcycle in several years. The wife took her maiden ride, who actually bought and wanted the bike, dropped the bike when turning in a parking lot, but didn't do any damage and she made it home and said Nope, not for me. I kept the bike, figuring with the kickstart and stuff might be a good EMP resistant vehicle (not sure if that's true or not and I'm not that serious about that either), but it's just a great looking bike IMO and I've got so many parts around for it.

But I just don't have that desire anymore. I still like bicycles and ebike stuff, though not as much for a long time. Rather than all the EV stuff I do wish there would be some bike lanes, but I've been passed too many times on blind curves and I know that if a car was coming, that vehicle would probably swerve into my lane. It sucks, but growing up around Amish and bike riders, you just have to wait until it's safe to pass.

I used to get nervous when gas stations were a hundred miles apart. I had a 2.25 gallon tank and got about 50 mpg

True, but that bike IMO that's just a step above an ebike, so you're not even thinking about anything but super short trips and the rare joy ride, with other eHarleys. I just looked at it on their site and they're saying 146 city/95 highway which I think is fine for who would be buying these, considering it's not the market that's gonna go cruise. I would imagine it might be a few efans that get them because it's all they can afford and others they're going to already own 2 or 3 other vehicles and this is eye candy in the garage besides the occasional trip to the bar.

These bikes look like they're much more luxury than practical, which is fine and to each their own. I'd love to not worry about practicality and just buy what I think looks cool. In that case I'd totally go out and buy an electric hummer truck and Rivian for me and my wife. I'm not there financially unless I like Bankruptcy and I'd much rather have earth moving equipment than those EVs.

I've been eyeing a ebike because I'm too fucking old to want to pedal a bike around. But do see the reason for having one.

If I lived in a city the Harley EV motorcycle might make sense. I keep saying I'm going to go ride one when they have a demo day but still haven't.

It comes back to getting what works for you. I have no ill feelings towards anyone who has a EV and think they are interesting but unfortunately until the technology improves there isn't one that fits my lifestyle.

@Apparition here's you EV....

Lmao this was a Tesla convention at the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo. I was literally just reading about it because I grew up there. That’s some fake news if I’ve ever seen it 😂
Wife and I always meant to go stay there at least once - never did though. I heard later that it was somewhat run down.

So the line to charge was fake?
If you get too many Teslas in one place you can't charge them all. Even when it's a Tesla convention when they know who's coming.
