What have you 3D printed for your TJ?

Less than $110 per size?

Probably doesn’t come with stickers

Looks like I missed this thread when I made this one. If anyone wants to share pics, links to files, or offer to sell one, drop a comment in that thread.

After finding out that my 97 didn’t come with (what I call) a water guard over the cabin air intake hole under the cowl, I’ve wanted to find someone to help me design and print one… with the possibility of adding a spot where a filter could be added.

I would love to stop getting blasted with sand the first time the heater is used, and I’m sure my GF would appreciate me eliminating the foot wash feature that happens when going 55mph+ in heavy rain…

I know this is old, but I'm just catching up on this thread. Did you make progress here? I'd like one too.

I have a few printed parts on the Jeep, but I mostly use the printer to prototype. I typically print in PETG and have had relatively good luck with the parts holding up. I think right now I have a couple of brackets on my fuse box under the hood that have been there for 6 months or so and haven't deformed yet. I also have a shift knob, switch plate brackets, speaker grills, sensor mounts, pull handle for the tumble seat, cell phone mount as well as others I'm sure I have forgotten. I have prototypes for the shifter I made for the 3550, fuel pump hanger, overhead switch panel, cb mount bar, defrost grille, throttle body, also many brackets. I can print them out cheap, check fitment and such, then decide whether to make a part or not. That has been the most useful for me.

I know this is old, but I am actually missing the small handle for my passenger fold-and-tumble. Let me know if I could PM you about making me one for a fee?

You know you can just buy the cover for a 98 TJ? I talked about in my build thread. I'd have to go find the page for ya but it's in there.

Great thread! Just got a new 3D printer at work, looking forward to messing with it. Watched a couple Meshmixer videos. We'll be making foot orthotics and working our way up to UCBL's (plastic foot brace) & full size AFO's (leg braces) eventually. Using mostly PETG so far.

I'm wearing a socket right now that was made from a digital scan of my leg.
I had to wear a AFO before my amputation due to foot drop.

Mine all have that cover over the air inlet. I thought that was just how they all came. I was trying to retrofit an off the shelf filter into there. That was the tricky part. Between working with stock filter sizes and the sloping cowl cover it was quickly becoming a project, so I sidelined it. I have too many other irons in the fire already.

97 TJ's didn't have the cover on the air box. They were the only year with the cowl that has the 3 openings.

Just found one for $10. Thanks again for the tip.

Cool. If I remember correctly it's 3 spots you can screw it down with. But the cowl will also keep it in place.

I've printed a few parts, I started with a new retainer for the shift boot. My stock one finally gave up and snapped. It worked perfectly snapped in nice and tight... Then summer came and my print delaminated. I realized I accidentally used PLA, so I reprinted it with carbon fiber petg is been rock solid for over 2 years now. I also designed a box for a gmrs radio to mount on the tray in the dash I designed it to be a pain to remove it so theft might be less likely. This was also printed with carbon fiber. I have a resin printer on it's way I'll probably be designing some emblems sand interior stuff.

So I'm trying to convince myself I need to get a 3d printer and start playing around with it. How steep is the learning curve for total newb (mostly figuring out the software I assume?) and what would you guys recommend?

The wife and I just did this and I came back from being out of town for work to an Ender 3. So far I've only printed the stock little boat, but the initial setup wasn't as bad as I expected. Now I'm just continuing to research and in February I've got some PETG arriving so I can start doing more practicing. I plan on using up the PLA that came with the unit to make stuff like a vase for the wife.

I'd love to hear others' recommendations, but to get the ball rolling and jumping into the learning curve I'm pretty happy with the Ender 3, since if I end up not using it, it wasn't that expensive, though I assume that it will likely lead me to a much more expensive model. I'm already kinda fascinated/excited about stuff with like multiple extruders and stuff as well. The possibilities are pretty vast.

For 3D printing there are just SO many options and methods that I'm playing around and then there's 3D scanning as well. I already draw in Solidworks, but I keep hearing that I'll probably want to try new software that will be a bit easier to make 3D prints.
