Snow Wheeling in the PNW

In the St Helens area of WA last weekend (12/10-11, 2022).

Not as impressive as others, but I got out into the woods this weekend as well. Out on Salmonberry to do some shooting and the snow got a bit deeper than expected. Good times were had, but I need to get chains and lockers.
We had to use the winch to get turned around and get back out.

Snow wheeling was SO fun a couple weekends ago. In the first video he shows a couple rigs trying to get out of a ditch / rut. The cutting brake worked SOOO good for this. Grab the uphill rear brake with rear unlocked and i was able to pop out of ruts that even much bigger tire folks couldn't get out of.

Chains are so under utilized from snow wheelers IMO. If you're in ice big tires dont help and chains are immensely useful.

I didn’t know about cutting/turning brakes until reading your post. That’s a sweet setup!

Can anybody recommend a good brand/style of chain for 31" tires?
What should I look for in a set of chains?

Perfect. Thanks for the tip! I seem to be getting on the trail a bit more often and hitting snow, so it is about time to add some good chains to the gear.

They are worth it. Worth their weight in gold when it's icy out. I only ran one set and 90% of the time I'd chain up the front axle but there were times it made more sense to do the rear. Of course having two sets and doing all 4 is the better option.
