Looking at new 3 season tents, primarily will be used for Car Camping with plenty of room for our 3 person family + dog.

A few things I’d like to have
-full rainfly and covered vestibule
-holds up in wind
-1 person set-up

Primarily looking the following:
Eureka! Space Camp 6
North Face Wawona 6
Big Agnes Bunk House 6 (need to be on-sale)
REI Basecamp 6 (would wait for 20% member coupon)

For half the cost of those -
Coleman skydome 6- full vestibule

Anyone have any first hand experience / Recs / things to look for?

How about a surplus military GP Small? You should be able to acquire one up there in AK along with the artic liner. for a 4 season setup.

20+ years ago, my family (2 adults+2 kids) and 1- 90# Lab camped in a 6 man dome tent. It was an inexpensive tent, like a Cabela's, Coleman, or Bass Pro. It worked great. It had all the things you wanted, except it's vestibule was not that big.

Don't be afraid of inexpensive tents for 3 season camping. I've backpacked with North Face, back in the day. They make a great product, but lesser cost tents works as well.

Thanks, yeah, the Coleman I was looking at checks a lot of boxes, definitely still in the running.

REI Base Camp 6. I have had one for years and love it. I was at a campground with high winds. Other tents were folding inward. Mine was rock solid and barely moved. I have never seen a really quality tent from Coleman.

When I think 3 season to me it’s more about keep the moisture out. Check out the bigAgnes line and see if that looks like your thing. I have a two room older model that I like and did well for my family of 5- able to stand up inside for changing has a partition.

Thanks, I like there stuff too, especially the tent height (bad for wind, good for a 6’6 guy)

Though my main concern is lack of vents on the 6 person, there are none

This may be the winner, nothing but good feedback… just need to wait for a 20% off member coupon

We have a newer big Coleman. It's ok but the wind does move it around. We also have a large old Cabellas and it is rock steady, just a bit harder to put up.

This. I've been happy with Cabelas and Coleman for 3-season weather.

My main advise is to go bigger. Tents are size-rated like you're smuggling immigrants. Assuming your dog isn't a toy breed you need space for 4, so I'd start at an 8 man tent. Plus it's really nice to be able to stand up and get dressed. As long as you're car camping go big.

Thanks, I go back and forth on that vestibule, I know it would be great to have on a rainy day but man is that thing long.

When I was car camping with kids, we took an EZ Up for rainy days. 10x10 is a lot more space than any vestibule.

I have a big tent you can borrow if you want. It is not super fancy but until you figure out what one you want to purchase it would get the job done.
