New HAM mobile recommendation

I'll check to see if I can hit Mt Vaca. I only have 2m in the Jeep, which is on blocks in the driveway.
That's Salono county?

Right now waiting on the Rocket Lab rocket launch in Virginia.

Yes, I'm a bit of a Rocketry nut too....

I believe so @Solano Co.

Hoping to pick up an HF rig soon and try some 10 Meter. Picked up a 10 Meter dipole antenna cut resonant to it.

Lol! No. Wouldn't that be quite the sight to see, haha! It'll be at home using a 15' telescoping pole.
I'm about to install a 10 meter dipole inside my attic. The attic's shape is so convoluted it'll barely fit there. We just moved here in May and the HOA says no outside antennas so I'm stuck on 10m lol. Getting its RG8x cable into my office will be a frigging nightmare though. I'm still not sure how that'll happen lol.

RG8X, 10M - suppose its "good enough". You hear the ARRL is attempting to pass a bill banning HOA's infringement on amateur radio antennas again? (or is that still?)

The HOAs get around that by the fact we home owners sign a private agreement with them agreeing to its T's and C's in order to buy a house in the HOA. This effectively explains why there's no hope in this situation. https://www.wtplaw.com/news-events/...he federal Telecommunications Act,“ham radio”)%20antennas.

Will someone PLEASE explain why seemingly ALL newer housing developments are saddled with HOAs? Is it because the local building department require them (won't approve the development otherwise) so they can't be blamed for overbearing bullshit shifting that tyranny to the private sector?

I know that the county here was told by irate home owners about 15 years ago that "You are NOT an HOA, BUTT OUT!!" So perhaps HOAs are a backdoor way to enforce bullshit? *shrug*

The HOA bullshit is real. Sorry to hear you have to jump thru the hoops, but as a Ham, you just find a way. 10 meter is hot right now, so it ain't all bad.

Good to know it has been a while since I have been on the HF bands so I was wondering how 10m was. I've done a lot of SSB, even some CW, DX on 10m, probably most of it on that band.

I'm working on getting an antenna tower (read that as pole) put up and thank heaven I don't have a HOA to deal with. I'm starting out with a 20ft pole for 2m and 70cm however, I noticed that my neighbor happens to have what looks like a 40ft tower laying in sections behind his barn. I'm eyeballing it and hoping I can cut a deal with him to get it. I live on 3 acres out in the country so no unreasonable restrictions on what I can put up.

A recent acquisition, Yaesu FTM-200D. A little less coin than the 300, but still has full GPS/APRS capabilities. It's only a single receiver, unlike the 300's dual receive feature, but it does have dual watch.

I have the faceplate mounted with a Lido quick disconnect mount. The main body is behind the center console.

The other radio you see in the first pic that at the bottom of the dash is my GMRS mobile.
I have my Ham antenna on a tail light bracket and my GMRS antenna on a A-pillar mount.

The Ham antenna is a Diamond. I don't recall the model, but is a dual band. The GMRS antenna is a Midland.

Edit: congrats on getting your Ham ticket!

Is the ham antenna mount a cb radio mount that was drilled out to accept nmo?

oooooh, I need to go find pictures.....

Current setup is Icom ID-5100 - head unit on a ram mount above the mirror and body is under the seat with an external speaker on the roll bar. using a Comet SBM-7NMO on the taillight mount works great.... accept for no APRS. (yes it has DPRS, no its not really the same)

Apologies for being OT, but what rear view mirror is that?

It’s a dash cam rear mirror, this one is a Niko Maku Amazon one, 2K front camera and an external rear. Works well and doesn’t take up to much space on the windshield (it becomes a normal mirror when you turn it off) I’ll dig up the links and another photo when I get home (if you remind me)

It shot this, FWIW:

What is HOA ?

Best to not know, but it’s some legit bs I know better than to be part of. I have an older friend who had his $700k house sold by the HOA to a sister company for $70k at a private auction in 2015 all because the HOA said he was late on his HOA paymen. Interestingly, they wouldn’t provide records for what they did with his $15k that he paid up front towards future HOA fees.

He wasn’t late on his mortgage until he was kicked out of the house. The state court wouldn’t help bc they are waiting to see what will happen at the Supreme Court level regarding houses forclosed on with the Fannie Mae loans.

This is one of those billion dollar scams that entities get away with on a technicality and it destroys family’s lives. Keep in mind that the sister company has been getting $3k+ in rental income for about six years.

And my buddy spent $90k fighting it in court and had to stop bc he couldn’t afford to keep fighting without there being a remedy in sight. That was all back in 2015-2017. He’s older and it pretty much ruined him bc he hasn’t recovered mentally or emotionally.

Don’t sign up for HOAs (for many reasons). It’s a fucking IQ test.
