I’m looking for a 2005-2006 LJ Rubicon. I want at least a 4” lift + 1” body and 35s because trails can be flooded down here in Florida, but I can add it. Street legal. Rubicon for the mud that goes with it. Hard top would be nice for cleanup and AC. Manual because that’s what the boss lady said and I don’t see it ever going out to Moab. I don’t want to deal with frame rust. The goal is $15k all in but I could spend more to get more or better and do less.

A manual trans works well in Moab as it does everywhere else. On some trails, an auto trans might be helpful but by no means a requirement

I don’t disagree
I think you’re going to have to add 10k to your budget if you want a clean LJR

You never know what will show up and there’s stuff on Facebook around $15k with Chinese parts that’s already as starting to rust. I’m not looking for a daily driver, only something that’s worth upgrading when stuff needs replacement, probably won’t leave me stuck and that won’t drive me nuts when it gets scratched. Why do you have something done right for $25k?

Here’s someone paying more with nearly identical requirements

I haven't made it yet, but I wouldn't have a problem taking my manual transmission 05 TJ Rubicon to Moab. I hope to make it there with in the next two years.

I didn’t mean to troll or stir anything up. I saw one hardtop with some rust from a dealer advertised at $12,900. See attached. Was it much worse than I think? I saw another sold asking over $28k.

That’s practically rust free . All that is surface rust or you can replace it if you are really bothered.

Here’s another under budget but auto and needs work

In Moab, I saw someone with a manual transmission coming back down without a spotter (I think it was the Rim trail), get off line, stop and try to back up but rolled forward enough to roll. I think he would have gotten away with it with an automatic. I think there are some other benefits too. I could’ve explained better.

No problem here. I've owned auto's and manuals and with the 4.1 transfer case and 6 speed transmission, I'm just saying it hasn't been a problem for me on the trails that I've encountered here in South East Arizona.

15k? With an engine?

There’s one in the Jeeps for sale section on here. In Kansas. Looks like it checks your boxes, albeit over budget.

Thanks. It looks really nice but I think it has 33s and a 2.5” lift unless I misread it.

From your description here, there are a number of things that could've made for a better outcome. Hand throttle and driver skill both come to mind.

One skill in particular - heel/toe.
