im starting to worry about my boyfriend. He has been spending many many hours straight putting all the electrical in the new workshop for the Jeeps. He doesn’t have anything playing out there. Dead silence. He says he’s fine.
How many of you work on your TJ in silence? I’m afraid he’s going to go Mad!

My garage has speakers for music I can play by simply saying Ok Google, plus TV, but I rarely play either. It seems like I can concentrate better without music or TV. Once in a while I'll be in the mood for something in the background but that's pretty rare. I think I enjoy the solitude/silence since the TV is on so much inside the house.

I also do both. Sometimes I do music, sometimes I just like silence. I also like to take a lot of breaks to maintain my cool.
I think he would like to take breaks but time is not on our side. Plus, he loses track of where he was at with all the circuits and wires, and boxes, and lines, that if he steps away, it takes him a while to remember everything. This is his first time installing electrical in an entire new building. So I’m guessing the silence is helping him stay focused and concentrate.

After listening to the wife all day I enjoy the peace and quiet. Maybe he's feeling it as well ... Just Kidding @Kathy, but I like working in silence.

I think you are spot on. I yell out to him every hour or so, and he started saying, stop yelling out to me. Lol. Point taken.

Silence is good, especially if it is tedious work like electrical can be. Otherwise, I tend to listen to news or podcasts and then I find myself tuning it out anyway. :)

As I was thinking about this, I restored a '60 vette in my late 20's in complete silence and I wouldn't have thought about music. Wish I had that car now. Sold it for $34K and probably worth at least $70K now.

If I were welding or doing mindless work — i have music on. But wiring would likely prefer silence. Sometimes there is just too much going on and adding another "channel" of noise is over the top.

If its something new I have to concentrate and I enjoy silence. I often get 5 kids trying to talk to me, but they know now to wait till o say what. If I know it, music is good

Mainly silence.
And my muted cursing, groaning from a stiff body as I get up, and knees popping.
As well as my back and other joints saying, "STOP THAT!"
I find that I really don't need the extra noise when I'm working on a project. Now driving my work truck, I ALWAYS have the radio on.
Just occasionally take him out a glass of tea or something. And ask him to show you what he's doing. He'll appreciate it.

Thanks. That’s what I’ve been doing because there are things that are easier to do with two people but he tends to just struggle instead of asking. So I just ask him. Just not as often :)
