Garage accident...

Thanks for sharing your story. We can all learn from other people’s experiences. But mostly I’m Glad to see you’re OK. Everyone here is so helpful and fun to share jeep questions/stories with. It’s truly a community to where I feel we actually give a shit about each other.

Yeah, it sure is a good group of folks, for sure. It's my first forum experience, so having friends that I've never even met is kind of a new thing for me. Pretty cool stuff!

You know, its typically the mundane tasks that get us. I'm sure @Squatch has drilled thousands of holes in his day. Once you get comfortable doing something, you tend to take it for granted. Most work accidents are caused because of that. You take something for granted, that you've done a zillion times and then "IT" happens. I met a guy missing half his hand. Toolmaker for 20 years, wasn't paying attention, and got wrapped up in a face mill. Sucked his hand in, and he had new finger tips. Another guy I know had was using a long, thin drill (like gun drilling). He was in a hurry, pushed too hard, and the drill bit shattered, with the middle section coming back into his face. It stuck into his chin, thankfully did not pierce. I have had a nail from a nail gun in my finger. Shit happens, even when you think you're being careful.

@Kathy, be careful and don't be afraid to ask for help. I'm sure Dave is happy to help. I'm slowly teaching my wife how to use my woodworking equipment. I don't push her and let her ask me. If she's not comfortable, I finish up, and we come back to it when she's ready. I've got her "tested out" on the Power Miter saw, Drill press, most of my small hand tools. She's still scared of the table saw, but that's OK. She does help me catch boards and stuff, but doesn't like the thought of putting her hand anywhere near the infeed side!

When I train new hires, I tell them the two most dangerous types of employees are the new hires who know nothing, and the old salts who know everything. The new guy makes mistakes because sometimes he just doesn't know any better, or doesn't realize what the equipment is capable of doing to the human body. The guy who's been doing the job forever becomes familiar with it to a fault, and therefore can become complacent. It's never happened to him before...until it does. I know that last night, I was in a hurry. It had gotten dark, my daughter's car crapped out on her (she and her hubby showed up and let me know her car was parked out front...again. New coils on order...). The wife had called from visiting her friend in the hospital, and wanted to know if I was hungry, how my day had been, etc. I was feeling the pinch, time wise. Then this happened. I should have taken a breath and relaxed, but I didn't. Lesson learned. ;)

Thanks, brother. Kinda partial to the idea of actually getting to work on the TJ. The accident happened while working on a...a...ummm...Mazda. I'm so ashamed...
OMG!! You need to go talk to your TJ and promise (her??) You'll be working on her soon and that you weren't unfaithful.
