Installing factory fog lights on a pre-wired TJ

Sorry man, the original post had pictures of a silver TJ so I assumed that was yours.

My TJ has the factory rear fog light.
The stalk has two pullout positions, the first does nothing and the second is the rear fog light.

I’m assuming the first is the front fog lights and hoping that its as simple as adding the lights and a relay and they’ll work.

I don’t have wiring in the inner guards but inside the engine bay on both guards I have the plugs pictured below.

Can anyone confirm those are the right plugs?

Ahhh, that's a European / Australian thing. None of the TJs in the U.S. ever came with those (or those twilights either). That has something to do with local laws. Vehicles in the U.S. aren't required to have a rear fog light.

Someone such as @Kiwi TJ or @Daz7 can hopefully confirm this, since they're from New Zealand and Australia.

Cheers Chris.

What's twilights?

Is your plug the same as what I have?

Out of interest, on your stalk when you pull the knob out to turn the fog lights on, it there a second indent? (can you pull it out further)?

I meant to say taillights, oops!

U.S. spec TJs have a different looking taillight. It's been a while since I looked at my taillight plug, so I can't comment on that 100%.

Nope, on my TJ you can only pull the knob out one time, there is no second indent. It sounds like that second indent on yours is supposed to turn on the rear fog, in which case, the stalk that comes on the Australian spec TJs must be a different part number than the U.S. spec one.

I’m not sure they would do a seperate switch.
They like to keep things globally simplified hence running the same harness throughout.

This got me to check mine again.
The combination is as follows:

-parking lights (rolling the knob forward once)
-headlights (rolling the knob forward again)
-front fog lights (pulling the knob out one indent.
-rear fog light (rolling the knob forward whilst front fog lights are on)

Cheers

To throw more confusion mine does not have the wiring for the spot lights.
Not sure what the three wire plugs are on top of the right and left guard, but in trying to find out I checked the relay wiring check the colours only to find out I have no wires running into that spot for the relay. DOH.

I'll have to try find the full loom.

Ok, odd question. I bought my 2000 Sahara used. It has the toggle switch for fog light but I can't see any wiring or a relay in the relay box. Anybody know of a way to wire up fog lights to the original switch. BTW, I don't have the connector/plug in Chris's first picture. Thanks if you know or can at least help. I work in electronics but can't find where the wires are going from the switch. Seems like it should be easy.
Mine has the plugs hanging under the front fender behind the front marker light. Just run wires from lights to plugs.

Kinda on topic.

Stock for lights are set up for 55watt from what I understand. Do you think the stock electrical could handle an upgrade to a 100watt set? I could go led, but I kinda dig the classic look of the halogen lights with a yellow lens film.

No, the stock wiring can't handle 100 watts without damaging the wiring / relay. You'd need to upgrade your relay / wiring harness.

The smart thing to do would be go to LEDs like I did, but if not, you're going to have to upgrade the wiring harness and relays.

Thanks Chris. That’s what I had expected to hear.

The whole reason for the light swap is purely sentimental and something only a car guy could relate to. I have these great Thule 6in light covers from my old jeep I wanted to use. Ill have to do some research and find a good led bulb before pulling the trigger.

I have the silver TJ, and wanted to know if anyone found a good extension for the factory plug? I changed my bumpers and want to add back the fog lights but when I put the factory set back on the new bumper did not like the look. Want or must say have to have round fogs or it would not be a TJ, any recommendations for replacements? I know there are tons of options and you guys always have some great feedback. Thank you.
few pics added of the bumper and the female connector attached on the inside of each fender.

Cut the wire midway and add a splice.

I just used two small (22 gauge?) insulated spade terminals and it fit right on the two contact points in the factory connector. I have plans of picking up factory plugs/pigtails at some point, but now it is not a priority as the spades work well. No issues with moisture so far.

I have a 2006 TJ ,appears to be prewired for fog lights. I installed new multi switch, relay ,and fog lights.
Switch install was easy ,this thread walked me right through it.
Anyhow I went to test the new lights and I do not have power to the fogs.
I checked the fuse ,triple checked all connections , and swapped relays. Still no power.
The fog light indicator comes on when the switch pulled. Blinkers ,head lights and all work with new switch. Am I missing something ,I would really like to get these lights working.
