2029 Wrangler

I know two people who just off-loaded their new(er) Wagoneers ('24 or '25) due to constant ongoing problems. One mentioned electrical issues, the other said is was constant mechanical issues that lead them to a new Tahoe. I thought that was interesting. They're not "car people", but they were so proud when they first got those Wagoneers.

So the marketing budget is effective but not the R&D budget

The car rental place said they had a lot of issues with them but the one we had only had a few hundred miles on it so he figured we'd be fine and we had no functional issues with it.

So it seems. These ladies are a bit bougie. I suspect they only got the Wagoneer because it was trendy. They both replaced the Jeep with GM SUVs. I did find it interesting that one of them had some alignment issues that the dealer couldn't solve. Her Wagoneer kept eating the right front tire.

Any mention of what the problems had been?

That's where I'm at with it. The convenience and power of the newer vehicles is nice for daily driving, but they're boring and when you have problems, they get expensive fast.

For me the bottom line is "cost per mile" .Trucking companies have used this metric forever , and it makes sense .
Everyone always talks fuel mileage , but that is only a tiny cost in the total cost involved. Many diesel pickups lose this game even if they get much better mileage than the gas counterparts.

I'm very familiar with that thinking. When I started being responsible for my own accounting and taxes, well, I learned what it actually cost to operate my "daily" vehicles. I know mathematically that I can drive 2 Civics for less than what it cost to operate just my truck or Jeep. Depending on fuel prices, the Civics are around $0.20-0.25/mile while my truck or Jeep is $0.60-0.75. I bought one of the Civics specifically to get my wife out of my truck when I knew the Biden admin was going to jack fuel prices years ago. ;) It's also part of the reason I will not buy new vehicles.

Vehicle cost , plates , insurance , maintenance and TIRES , are tough on truck's CPM .

I know a local man who owns a decent sized landscape & erosion control company who has a fleet of trucks, somewhere around 25. All of his trucks 1-ton and smaller are gassers because of his calculated cost-per-mile. I remember one guy asking him why he kept buying gassers and why not just get diesel trucks. Craig responded; "How much extra does that diesel engine cost? (about $15K at the time) I can buy a lot of fuel for that much money." That guy couldn't do the math, but I could.

Somewhat related - I follow the Ram 1500 forums and social media groups. I got my '23 new when the '25 was about to come out with the same engine as the Wagoneer, Hurricane 3.0 I6 turbo. I did not want the new Ram figuring they might have problems with the new engine.

So lots of arguing going on because the 3.0 is faster because of the turbo. The people with '24 and earlier love their V8 with the 'manly' exhaust sounds vs. the new I6 that sounds like all the other new vehicles with turbos.

Many reporting electrical issues with the '25 and up. Some take them to the dealer and they can't always figure it out.

It just seems that many car MFG's have the pedal to the metal with new tech, trying to keep up with the others. They're just getting increasingly over complicated. You have your typical battle of the engineers vs. the techs.

And the correct amount to figure is only the difference in mileage over the truck's life. One after treatment device failure , or a common rail pump puts them out permanently .

I don't know the specs on those specific Wagoneers, but both said they were at the dealership about monthly, and it was usually a band-aid, lets-see-if-this-works kind of fix. The alignment never was resolved, which I find interesting.

The hurricane didn't seem like anything special, felt like a normal vehicle to me.

I just find it funny because if the V8 crowd wants to trigger the Hurricane crowd, they just refer to it as 'the new I6'. Which the Hurricane crowd will be quick to reply with 'It's NOT new! It's been in the Wagoneer for over a year!'

Uh, that's still pretty new...

Odd that they couldn't figure out an alignment issue. If I had a vehicle like that, always at the dealer, I'd be trading it in pretty quickly too. Of course, my wife wouldn't necessarily agree with that.

Agreed! The pro Hurricane people talk about it like nobody has ever put a turbo in a vehicle before. F150 is in what, gen 3 or 4 of the eco boost?

It's a simple concept: The EPA doesn't like V8's. So they take an I6 and add a turbo. IMO, seems like a great way to increase probability that the vehicle won't last as long and they might be back to trade it in sooner.

What are the thoughts on the Wrangler Anvil 715? https://moparinsiders.com/jeep-reveals-wrangler-anvil-715-concept-for-easter-jeep-safari/

This is why I have my doubts jeep will be going to some weird new wrangler. Yes it's a concept, but it's got onboard air, 6.4 hemi AANDDDD claims to minimize the amount of unnecessary crap and add-ons. Personally, while it doesn't look like the typical wrangler and almost pulls some toyota vibes, I quite like it. Do I think this look should replace the OG wrangler look? No. But functionally it shows a step in the right direction.

Well it doesn't really look like a Jeep anymore. So already not a fan. Maybe aimed at the Range Rover crowd. Though I know most of these concept vehicles don't actually happen.

I remember the concept Ford Probe in the late 80's. Looked really cool. Then the actual Probe came out and it looked more like a Toyota Celica. Nothing like the concept.

Fair enough. I feel like the concepts are to throw a bunch of crap at the wall and see what sticks. I feel like this more shows that Jeep still does have their head in the game and won't go to some gay IFS futuristic Wrangler that totally loses their customer base. Maybe when Stellantis had the old CEO, but I would think now they're going to go with something decent. Hopefully they step up their game against the Bronco's. Competition is always good
