(2005 wrangler S.E 2.4 manual) Outer gear shift boot replacement?

I can find leather replacement ones but I can't seem to find a rubber (accordion style) boot for an 2005 2.4 cylinder. Anyone else ever find one?

Thanks

Bill

There is a conversion to the leather one if you can’t find the accordion style. I’ll have to find it. It’s on this forum. Some people do it just because they like it better.

It seems like I can find one for every year jeep except an 05. Oh well if I can't find one I'll just get another leather one no big deal.

Thank you much

The boot probably isn't any different than an 04 or really any other TJ year. If they aren't too expensive, you're not losing anything really by ordering a boot and seeing if it will fit.

I do not think the 05’ had the accordion style. Maybe a P.O. had it put on? I’m almost 100% sure they all had the leather one.

X2 everything i found was they are leather/pleather. If you like the rubber. Might have to order one for a 2004 and try to get it to work

Is the square whole in the console for the shifter different from the 5 speed to the 6 speed? As far as I know, the accordion only came on the 5 speed and the leather came with the 6 speed. If the hole is the same, I'd imagine the shift boot would be a simple replacement.

I’ve seen a conversion from the rubber one to the pleather, but never vice versus. I think the pleather one looks nicer. I think it was @Tj04 who did it

I wonder if the way the plastic bezel mounts to the console is the difference between the two. If his Jeep already had a rubber boot on it, I'd think that the previous owner may have done the conversion. Interesting conversion. I like the leather boot better as well. Might have to look into it!

I know this, the 05-06 has a different console than previous TJ’s. It is much more complicated if you need to move it back an inch or modify it in some way.

Interesting. I wasn't aware that they changed the console. I think the best plan for the OP should be to figure out which console he has (or at least which boot will be easiest to get on the shifter). Then just go from there.

Yeah, I wish @Tj04 would chime in, but I haven’t seen him in a long time. The conversion may have been a link in a PM. I’ll take a look and send it on to you if I find it.

BTW, you have a great setup. I appreciate all your mods. Very nice setup...

I appreciate the compliment, but my Jeep isn't as nice as it seems. 225,000 miles with a rotted out frame and a lot of good parts attached to it. Hopefully it will actually be nice after the frame swap. Going to get everything degreased and cleaned off. Hopefully all of my leaks will be fixed after that as well.

If the jeep doesn't leak you are out of fluids.

Ain't that the truth. Most of my leaks are just slow seeping. Rear main seal is gone, probably the front main seal, transmission has a seep, front pinion seal is gone. Just got the transfer case fixed yesterday funnily enough.

My 2005 2.4 cyl currently has the pleather shift boot. It's ripped around the bottom and it sags. I was going to replace with a rubber according style assuming it would be the last time I ever have to change it out but no luck finding one. I did find one rubber boot according style but it said it was for the 6 cylinder. I'm guessing there's something different between the 2.4 and the 6 cyl.
