Hello gents,

Getting back in the game and starting over. This is my 3rd Jeep. It’s an ‘01, 4.0, NV3550, Dana 30/Dana 35. Runs good. One previous owner and it came from Arizona. Only had 77k!! Still performing maintenance when time allows. Upgrades will be done as budget permits. Once an “acceptable” level is met (in my mind), I’d like to start hitting some trails and events. Currently in the central Texas area between Austin and San Antonio. I’ll be dropping in on time to time for ideas.

Thanks,

Paul

I cant really tell if this is a gray type color or blue. Either way I really love these models of Wranglers. Too bad you couldn't get the 6 speed, but all in all low mileage and will be a ton of fun to build.

The Mercedes built 6-speed used in the late model TJs, isn't that great of a transmission. Most people seem to prefer the 5-speed over the 6-speed from what I've read.

That is not the case for me. I have the 2005 TJ with the 6 speed. I personally love it, and have no problems so far. Is there a common theme I don't know about? My TJ only has about 70XXXish at them moment.

Intersting! The common theme seems to be very loud, clunky, and notchy. Though the Redline transmission fluid seems to make it much better from what I'm told.

I can't comment first hand as mine is a 42RLE automatic, I'm only going off what I've heard from others... It is the internet though, so you never know!

Welcome. Looks good. I'm wondering if there's such a thing as an "acceptable level."

Seems like every mod puts two more on the "wants" list.

Haven’t added anything to this thread because I’ve been posting on the “what did you do to your TJ today” thread.

Update thus far: All engine and driveline maintenance completed. Discovered the previous owner went through some water and never changed fluids. Transmission and diffs were nasty! Shift tower and boots were destroyed.

Replaced some parts, lined the tub and fenders with raptor liner. Found new (to me) bumper and winch on Craigslist for a fraction of the price. Rocker guards are next.

Then it’s on to regearing, lifting, SYE, driveshaft, tired and wheels, then lockers and shafts upgrades.

I wasn't a big fan of the 3 6-speed manuals I had in previous TJs, either. But if it works for you, and drives the way you want, that's great!
