What’s your mileage cutoff in a search?

Just curious what you think: on autotrader or whatever website, what do you enter as an upper limit for miles?

When actually searching to buy I guess I have a psychological cutoff at 150k....sometimes I look just to look and don’t care.

My rational brain says things like rust, proper maintenance and whatnot are ultimately more important than the number of miles, but i’m still curious of your thoughts.

I always plug in 60k. That’s just me tho. I always look for super low mileage ones. I’ve seen some really nice ones over 100k also tho. Maintenance will when out for sure, but I prefer lower miles myself.

I always look under 60k. But, I'm also not your typical TJ buyer. I'm looking for mint or near mint examples with no rust whatsoever.

I'd be willing to take one with over 60k for sure, as long as I could verify it was clean and had no rust on it.

150. Though I click on more vehicles with less than 100k

x2

I glance at higher mileage ones to get a pricing idea but gravitate to lower mileage TJs typically with less than 100k.

I definitely don’t mind looking at higher mileage jeeps, but I do like the the cut off to be 150k. If the higher mileage >150k comes with a good price and great frame and body then I’d bite.

That's me. Just bought my 1998 with 168,000 miles. Great body and frame.

Depends on what I'm thinking of doing with it .

For my sons to thrash ? 100,000 miles plus is fine if the price is right and it's not trashed (yet)

For my youngest to learn to drive ..80-120k maybe ...that's on my radar

For my personal ride and prize egg? I want the nicest , lowest mileage one I can afford .

For me , usually the cheaper high mileage vehicle never saves me money ..I end up with something worn out , I don't enjoy , working on all the time , and throwing money at it non stop in hopes to get it dependable , and mad at myself for getting caught in the game.

Depends. I’ll sooner look at a clean, pristine, unmodified TJ at 120,000 than I will a dirty, beat up, modified one at 60,000.

I'd sooner buy something driven daily than a low miler parked for 6 months. Rust free is all i really care about. But high mileage could cut the price in half. Mine has 215K right now and I plan to keep it til I die.

100,000 to 150,000 with documented regular maintenance history. 60,000 to 100,000 with little or no maintenance history. Some surface rust acceptable but bore scoping the inside of the frame is the deal breaker.

Most of the YJs I was looking at, including the YJ Renegade I almost bought, were over 200,000 miles. Even the 1987 with 280k+ I strongly considered.

TJs I found were lower mileage, and I came across a 2006 Rubicon with 44k miles. Wasn't exactly what I was looking for nor planning to spend, but I couldn't pass it up

I set year, price, and mileage. Then after looking a while, I would change them to try and find the mislabeled ones. I found my daughter's first car because the guy put it on Craigslist's all for sale instead of in the car section. So it sat there for a long time with no hits.

I've even searched using common misspellings or by negative searches, like Jeep -Cherokee -Liberty -Commander -JK -JLU. That way you find that guy selling a TJ Rubicon as a simple Jeep.

I also set up a couple search notifications, but some of the sites still include stuff outside your search range that "you may be interested in". Ummm no.

After 6 months I found my 2006 TJ Unlimited with 69,000 miles and a great frame for just a little out of my initial price range. But for the shape it's in and the mileage, I paid it.

At age 68 I wasn’t concerned with mileage as much as a clean, unmolested/stock condition Tj that I could have fun with. I still have my ‘03 Edge so future accumulating mileage would be split between them. If I was 25 years younger and working lower mileage would certainly become a factor. My wife was very peculiar about mileage on our primary vehicle [always new] and when it approached 100,000 she would start looking for a replacement. Her dad and family were all over, Md, Va, Ohio, Tx so all our miles were traveling miles not commuting. We probably bought at least one if not two rides that we didn’t need to. But you know the saying ‘if mama ain’t happy then nobody’s happy.’ She was a middle school teacher forever and the car pymts came out of ‘her’ ck for ‘her’ ride.
