Thought I'd fallen for the new wrangler...

For the hell of it, I just did the Build and Price for a 2 door JLR on both Jeep.ca and Jeep.com. Both had all the same options added.

Canadian: $46,065 USD, $61,350 CAD
US: $52,525 USD, $69,957 CAD

Base Price
Canadian: $37,070 USD, $49,340 CAD
US: $47,272 USD, $62,918 CAD
Oof. Just doing a run of the mill payment calculator search on Google, and at the $52,525 US price point, with running an average of a 3.11% interest on the loan with no money down comes out to a payment of $946 a month for a 60 month note. Gracias, pero no gracias. Everyone has the right and can do what they will with their own money, but man I'd hate knowing I owed that kind of coin for 5 years.

Same as people making payments on a toy TJ. Just doesn’t make sense. If you have the cash go for it...because you can afford it. If your gonna be stuck making payments just wait.

That's the one reason I've taken forever to get anything done to mine. I've wanted to do a lot to it, but if I can't pay cash, then my ambitions and I will just have to wait it out while throwing rocks back and forth at each other.

Ha ha, every time there is a major change to the Jeep, it's the same "the new Jeep is crap, the only *real* Jeep is (flat-fender, CJ, leaf springs, TJ, pick one). I can't wait until the JK guys start crapping on the JL saying the only *real* Jeep is a JK. :)

It's just a new Jeep, in 10 years there'll be another new one.

I'm just happy they're still making them. I've had orphan cars before (Fiero GT, Triumph TR6, etc) and your options for aftermarket parts goes way down when a vehicle type is abandoned. Making parts for the latest Jeep also keeps many brands in business so they can keep making TJ parts too.

I paid $6k for a loaded CJ5 back in the '70s and thought $25k for a Jeep was astounding. Then I bought an Unlimited Rubicon for $26k and thought $55k for a Jeep was astounding. Who knows what will happen next?

Exactly.

Considering that we all carry the same kind of tech in our pockets, it would just make more sense to build in a phone holder for the dash and have an app that allowed for integration for things like back-up camera and such. It's so much easier to control upgrading a phone and it's a hell of a lot cheaper than replacing an entire car.

It looks like that is the direction the manufacturers are going: I just bought a 2018 Chevy Volt, and like many new cars, the touch screen in the center has Apple and Android interface. I can connect to the phone either through bluetooth or a USB connection and can see and control apps on my phone on the car's touch screen.

Those kind of prices just means that our value of the dollar is less now than even just a decade ago, so we ahve to work about the same to get the same result...stupid inflation...7k in the 70's was a years wages for some people, now 56K is still a years wages. Tim

Was going to say the same thing. CJ and YJ guys said the same stuff about us when we bought the "Barbie Jeep" with a car dash and cushy suspension. Every evolution gets better, more refined, and more capable. IF they sold the same archaic Jeeps, no one would buy them except old crusty guys, and there would be no innovation in performance or parts.

I agree with you...its like custom cars...you may not agree with what they have done, and it may not be your taste, but... you can appreciate the amount of work gone into it.

Don’t be afraid of the gadgets...not having to manually roll your windows down isn’t a terrible thing. The new JLs look great, and the Rubicon model is very impressive. Stock with 33s from the factory. Who would of thought that would happen. Price tag is very steep, but so is everything else.

Yeah but they break, and then you also have obsolescence, in 13 years, it will be just like the PCM on the 05-06 TJ's, not many options for replacements of electrical parts...a window crank may last 50 years...Tim

My 2005 F350 Diesel with 200k on it has electric windows and locks. Nothing has been changed and they work as new. Same with my old Focus with 200k on it. I had a manual window crank handle break off my old Grand Wagoneer at like 130k. :D It's all relative.

Manual windows won’t be around for forever. I get the tj is “simple” but eventually everybody will have to go to jks or JLs if you want a Jeep there’s no way around that.

it was just like any other new car, a cabin full of chrome with buttons everywhere...
Yep, all automakers need to do today to sell a "new" car is make it smarter than yer iphone. No one buys a car for more power, luxury or utility.... unless it has the best technology of the day in connectivity.

Union labor had alot to do with this.

To each his (her) own. Just because Jeep makes it doesn't make it a Jeep in my eyes. We don't have any choice as to what Jeep makes other than not buying it. I've felt they've gotten away from what we in the TJ world sees as a Jeep which is more on the utility/trail side of things. The newer Jeeps to me are more urban and seems marketing had a big hand in how these look and function based on their sales demographics.. which is to be expected of course. I know we can all go around and around about it and i'm not anti-new at all but give me something that appeals to me, lasts as long as our TJs will and at least looks good and you have my attention. I just don't see these newer Jeeps lasting as long as ours... all that plastic fading, electronics shorting out.. jeez that will get expensive. I think the number of people keeping a newer Jeep maybe 5-10 years is much, much smaller than we in the TJ world.

I almost bought a JL and will consider buying one when I’m in the market again in 3 years. You can get a JL for 10% under MSRP without a lot of hassle.

The Sport and Sport S models can be had from$30-37k. Done forget a 2006 TJ Sport retailed for around $26k.

For a trail rig that would be ride pretty hard I’d stick with a TJ. They can be repaired more easily and for a lot less $. However for a daily that occasionally does some mild trails and over landing the JL ((Sport or Sport S) can get you there and back in comfort (much more so than a TJ) and is as capable as a moderately modified TJ on the trails.

My dream would be to have a JL 2 door Sport S with hard top option next to the TJ in the garage. The JL would be the daily and the rough weather vehicle (Florida). While the TJ is the top down good weather and trail vehicle. And in a few years, like 5, modify the JL to lift it and add tires, brakes, lockers etc. and make it a toy. Then decide if I want to buy the latest new Wrangler as a daily, and 3rd Wrangler in the stable.

Yea and so do manual windows lol. I had to replace the passenger handle already. I’ve never had any issues with power windows...
