I'd check it way deeper , frame , frame ,frame ..it's seen salt

Yes both actually...you need a scope or at least a cheaper flexible magnet to stick inside the holes in the frame and see how rusted the inside is... Really it's all about the frame.
Jeep is not in my state. what could i ask the guy to do to verify your point above?

see if you can get another forum member or a reliable car inspector in that area to examine it

What’s the mileage and year as well? Like others said need to check interior with either a scope or your fingers. Just because it’s painted doesn’t mean anything. I painted mine to protect it. It had little surface rust. If it was close it would be worth checking out.

2005 X. i believe 125k miles.

To be honest, i’d have to research about this because I would not check for rust hidden within the holes, etc. with a scope or a magnet ... seen that on here but don’t know what everyone means.

Do you have any advice for that? And are we thinking there’s more rust underneath because of the part of the rust on the back?

Correct... If you have rust on the body, you had/have rust on the frame.

That’s not a terrible price. Stick your fingers in all the frame holes and feel inside the frame. It should be relatively smooth. If you feel any flakes at all it’s a pass. Ideally use a boroscope from amazon to look. But finger test works well if you don’t have one. The area of the frame that is notorious to rust and rot is by the rear wheels. The frame hole in the rear wheel well collects a lot of crap. Stick your finger in there and feel around. But don’t neglect the rest of the frame. Make sure where frame and transfer skid meet that the interior frame is smooth as well.

Damn. I feel like it’s nearly impossible to do that from being a far drive away. Not sure how i’d be able to tell. However, i find it very hard to find a completely clean rig with no rust. Do you have an example pic of where to look as to what you describe in case i’m mis-reading what you’re referring to
