What's top dollar for a 2006 X model?

Hey guys, I came across an 06 Wrangler X at a local dealer and just wanted to check here with you guys and see if the price is reasonable.
The Jeep is in nice condition, no rust or anything, but it's not amazing or outstanding. It's an X model with 173k miles. It's got the inline 6 engine, full doors, hard top, AC, cruise control, 2" lift with steel wheels and 31x10.50 tries on it. The wheels, tires, and lift kit are nothing special, no high end brand names or anything.
The Carfax shows an accident with minor damage to the front right, and it seems to have been repaired. They are asking $13,000 for it, and are pretty firm on that price.
Is 13k a bit steep for a nice X model, or is it about average?
What are you guys finding out there? I haven't been able to find anything decent at a reasonable price at all! I completely gave up on finding a Rubicon, prices on those around here seem to start at 20 grand for rusted out auction vehicles!

I paid 14 for my 06 Rubi a few months ago. 89k miles and stock except for wheels and tires. That X would be going for less than 10k here easy. Dealers are always more expensive because they expect people to make payments

Never be afraid to look outside your home area. True, it means a little more commitment to "just look at it", than if it was across town. But with the access at your fingertips to see beyond the horizon, it may be worth a peek.

Bought my wife's Focus wagon off ebay in Baltimore.
Bought my Kawasaki Voyager off ebay in Colorado Springs.
Picked up my Expedition in Fayetteville from Craigslist.
Goldwing came from Topeka on craigslist.

Having access to vehicles from less rust prone areas would be great, but are you comfortable not getting to personally inspect and drive a vehicle before purchase? Or do you somehow find a trusted person local to check out the vehicle, or owner willing to string out the purchase until you can drive/fly to see the vehicle?

Also for reference.

Purchased my '04 X with 88,000 miles for $10,500. Drove 4 hours to get it.

This is what governs price, what the locals will pay.You might need to drive a thousand miles to get a better deal.

I paid $13,800 for my clean, low mile TJR.... 9 years ago.

Paid $11k for '06 Rubi in NY 2 months ago. It is getting to be bikini weather, even more so in Tenn. Wranglers, or any convertible goes up in price. Look around Oct. and those soft tops go down in price.

Got a stock rubicon 130k miles with the 5 speed for $13,000 just keep looking. In my opinion, Jeep Wrangler X’s are less than ideal. I test drove one before finding my rubicon, the gear ratio makes them extremely slow even stock, going on the highway going 70-75 in the X had little to no acceleration in 5th, it wouldn’t get out of its own way, where as, my rubicon gets off the line super quick (for a Jeep) and although jeeps aren’t know as performance vehicles, I’ve taken a couple civics and Ford Focuses full of highschool kids at red light races.

Price sounds high. If it is that Jeep or nothing, start negotiation at $8K. They probably have less than that in it. 13K will get you a diamond with a modicum of effort.

I agree with most of the previous posts, it is a bit too high. I looked all over the country for mine, ended up driving 6 hours to buy it, but got a 2006 sport with 57k miles for 11,500. Pays to be patient and look at lots of different markets if you can. I asked for a lot of extra pics of engine, drive train and frame before making the drive to test mine to help make sure I was not wasting time and money.

Thank you for all of the great replies!
I thought that 13k was pretty steep for an X model. I've been looking for so long for a Rubicon in decent condition that I have kind of given up hope of finding anything. I have been looking elsewhere in other states, but I've had some bad experiences with driving several hours to look at something only to be extremely disappointed. I have seen some nice ones for sale across the country from dealers willing to ship, but I just can't pull the trigger and pay for a vehicle that I've not looked over and test drove. My anxiety just won't allow it. Lol
Anyway, thank you so much for the feedback, I'll keep googling and hopefully I'll be able to find something.

There can be some risk. I had 1 picture of the Voyager, but the price was in my range. Had 5 pictures of the Focus that weren't that great. But it was 3k under book value. The expedition, I knew I might come home empty handed, but knew what to look for and was mainly concerned about how it looked. One local expedition I looked at had kid foot prints on the headliner from wet paint. WTF? The interior was just trashed. Low miles though, LOL. Found a high mile (160k) one owner, that a tabletop dealer had bought wholesale and was flipping.

While sitting at the airport waiting to fly to Baltimore, I've never had butterflies in my stomach as bad. I had only talked to the chick briefly, and had a picture of a large woman laying on her couch eating ice cream straight out of the container. Turned out she was (probably) a pot head and had no idea of how cars worked. She delivered it to the airport for me and she even called me later to see how it was doing. She was surprised when I told her I was already in Indianapolis. Had worse luck having tires put on at a Ford dealer out there before leaving town, than I did with her.
You just never know. Even if it's down the street from you.

I got my first TJ last month, local from a guy a couple miles away. Ease of transaction played a part. I won't say it's perfect, and in Chicago area typically there is no such thing as rust free, but for the $6500 price so far (knock on wood), it has been working and my kids enjoy it.

Dealing with some SPOTs in terms of funky alarm and some broken back seat bolts from a previous owner. I think next time around when having more time, I will follow your approach of swinging a wider loop so to speak, in terms of geography. Also I will try to find a bone stock model. Even though I like the wheels and some other upgrades that came with my TJ.

By the way, I am a member of a CJ online group based in Georgia, and good lord the low rust CJs they have down south for reasonable prices, I drool every time seeing one posted for sale. Would love to have easier access to CJ/TJs from down south. Chicagoland is generally rust city when it comes to older vehicles. Haven't seen a CJ around in ages. Other than my old CJ rusting in the driveway. :(

Geep4me... Haha! Yea it's kind of a crap shoot, you never know what your really going to be walking into. I've gone chasing great craigslist ads only to find out the pictures were from 10 years ago. Lol

MaloStapalo... Wow! That's a great looking Rubicon! I can't even find sport or X models with twice the mileage for that price!

JMT... Yea, an 05 X model with only 46k miles is awesome. I would seriously consider this jeep if it didn't have 173k on it. Sounds like you got a really good one too build on for sure!

He had a few other people email him about it but I went and paid a cash deposit for him to hold it while I got the rest together and paid him cash and told him I'd give him his asking price. I've replaced the lift and done other minor maintenance, but the mechanicals, frame and body are fine and that's what was important to me.

If you find one near 81657 I can go take a look.
