Air Conditioning Troubleshooting

I’d the dye isn’t showing any leaks, that seems to suggest that it’s not a leak, and maybe it’s something else. Unfortunately I’m no AC expert by any means, but I assume the clutch is coming on and everything?

Same problem and have yet to find it. Compressor comes on, if I fill it with refrigerant it cools for a few days, then nothing, I assume evaporator, but it could possibly be a leak at the port where we add the dye. Someone else found this to be the problem on here. Much easier to get to the port than the evaporator! Let me know what you discover, as summer is already begun here in TX

Dye will only show you if its leaking under the hood, you wont be able to see the evap section. Pressure testing the system with dry nitrogen for 24 hours will tell you if you system is tight or not.

Going to do another recheck on electrical, soap test, hardware checks, just po'd on the shop that failed.
It still could be the evaporator behind your dash. If the shop didn’t check the evaporator, that’s where I’d look next, although it’s a pain to get back there

Might as well just replace the heater core while you're back there too.

06, 4.0, no cold air, been to evidently the wrong repair shop twice. They can't find leak, dyed the system still nothing

You did not mention if your compressor is engaged or not. If the compressor is not operating then the charge could be flat and you can soap test all you want and it will tell you nothing.

If you have access to a set of gauges you could do a performance test.

I’ve heard that the TJ X model does not come with AC? Is this true or false? I’ve been told there is not even a button for AC, that it is manufactured closed but if you choose to have AC, it can be replaced?

If it was ordered with A/C it came with it. A/C was available on all TJ models. The HVAC faceplate did not include A/C if it was not ordered.

An aftermarket kit is available thru Jeepair if you so choose. Piecing a system together from various sources is generally going to be more expensive.

Ok. How much ya think?

I have an X and I have AC. It doesn’t work, but I have it! 😂

X2 On performance test
I think autozone has a manifold gauge you can rent. Hook that puppy up and see if you have pressure. No pressure usually means there’s a bad leak. The A/C shop could have done this quick if they would have vacuumed the system to ensure there wasn’t a leak.
Also with the manifold gauge on you can see when the compressor is operating.

I like to use a smoke machine to check for leaks.

I have an X model and it does have the button for AC but I have no compressor or any of the ac components.

On A/C systems you should never use a smoke machine as it will introduce unwanted particulates into the system and as the system is high pressure it normally requires high pressures to discover leaks.

Still?
Or, you just haven't found time to get to it?
I'm curious. My '06 was new to me in the fall so, when I tried the ac the other day, it didn't work. I recharged the system and it worked. It's been about a week now, maybe I better Ho see if it still works. You've got me worried. (Not a lot though. I don't use it that much. And I may then covert it to OBA)

My mechanic (ex-Mechanic now), told me it was the compressor. So I spent $600 buying Chinese crap compressor and new o-rings throughout the system in the Engine bay, just to have AC for 3 days, then it crapped out again. So, I called the mechanic and he said it was probably the evaporator then. NO SH— Sherlock! So, I’m not paying him to fix it. I haven’t got to it. I’m still venting and that was a year ago. I just want to have AC in the summer if you know what I mean. Seems I’m not destined to have it. The job actually scares me a bit.
