Don't use one, but am curious about them. Taking the wife out on Saturday to teach her how to wheel in the sand. One thought led to another, and I got curious about sand anchors.

Anyone actually use one? The seem like an awfully unhandy piece of gear with extremely limited utility.

Pull-Pal donated one to my Jeep when I got it. I used it once to practice with it on a deeply rutted FS road, it worked as it said it would.

Good ones work in sand and snow.
Interesting. Hadn't thought about using one in snow.

Interesting again. We've got trees, most are conveniently located. But not always.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned traction boards at all. Seems like the main thing that one would use in the sand. Most of the time when you don't have traction in the sand you wedge a traction mat down under there and your good. Plus they act as a shovel to clear sand out of the way, and they can act as a deadman anchor by burying it in the sand horizontally with a tree strap around the middle, then winch out. (Same way you would do it in the snow).

I have a set of these right now https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CQJBZNW/?tag=wranglerorg-20

For that price, its a steal. You'll be surprised on how good the quality is, plus they are much more TJ friendly size too!

A few years ago I remember watching on the telly a reality Tv show about 6 or 7 4WD crossing Alaska...everyday was a new challenge and yes that was a red TJ in it...the land anchor saved the day on many occasions.
*on a side note the TJ held its own very well.....

Is that the show were a Husband & wife won in a Tacoma P/U?
Slow and steady wins the race.
yeah I think they did...my memory is a bit fuzzy about who won.
It was fun to watch the trail temporary fixes to get them to the next camp.
*EDIT Found it.....it was called
Alaska Off-Road Warriors

Have you used them yet? How have they held up over time with real world use? Amazon reviews don't seem too great. Been looking for a smaller version of the maxtrax that'll fit inside the TJ and been contemplating the foldable ones.
