Thanks for making me feel better about test fitting my bar this weekend. I feel like such a poser... and my Jeep hasn't gone offroad in 2 years so that's not making me feel any less poser either... lol.

It's good seeing what needs to be done to this bumper to bring it up to snuff and good seeing you're doing it.

The extended deck and relocating the winch was the single most time consuming part. The value there, as I understand it, is the extra real estate and aesthetics. I really like how tight the winch is to the grill. I had wanted to do something similar to my old bumper for quite some time, but the efforts weren't worth the end results on the one.

The shortcut way to improve a similar bumper would be to extend the top side frame mounts back to the sway bar bolts with a big gusset reaching back to the rear lip of the winch deck. Then add the cross member bracing to the underside as Blaine described.

The shape that the rear deck extension took is the result of trying to clear the Mercedes steering box in a clean manner. The older Saginaw box I looked at on that black Jeep didn't rise as high above the frame.

When I fix the crossmember bracing, I might add a small triangle to better support the length of the tab going to the last sway bar bolt.

The bracket is modified to attach to the winch.

The law says I do. It looks much better without.

Does the law have a condition for vehicles that were sold without front plates from the dealer? From a design and practicality standpoint it's so much better imho. Put it in the back and if you get a fix it ticket zip tie it on?

There are a couple exceptions, but none apply to a Wrangler.

Probably the best mounting option you are going to come up with minus attaching it to the fairlead somehow.
That's what I'm thinking. I'm avoiding the fairlead because I want to not think about removing a license plate on special occasions.
