I originally saw this about 5 years ago while doing some glass tabletops for an older couple. They bought it new in the late 80s and the wife thought it was the best "car" ever built. I was pretty happy to see it again, still looking almost brand new.

Those are still the factory fog lights, and if you need to have chrome on your Jeep I think this is the only acceptable way to have it.

The TV show 'Wheeler Dealers' cleaned one up new paint and they did 'graining' on the side panels....3 inch lift if I remember.....I loved it.

If that pic is like the one they did in the show, @Kiwi TJ (I haven't seen the show), then it was an FSJ (Full Size Jeep). The one the OP is talking about is the smaller XJ. I have to admit, I've never even heard of one (XJ or FSJ) having a vinyl roof. Not too sure that I'd be diggin' on that!

I'm not sure if the vinyl was from the factory or added after they bought it. IIRC they moved here from somewhere down south but there is no rust anywhere on this Jeep and I think I'd leave it on.

Cool looking old Jeep. I always wondered why they didn’t have a Jeep grill?

I wonder that myself. I think only the Wagoneers looked like this and maybe they were just trying to be more luxurious than the others. I also think this was part of the reason they failed in the Hummer-Jeep grill battle.

This came up recently on the Cherokee Forum. I can't remember if it was in Crist Clapper's thread but he is doing an excellent job of restoring an '87 Wagoneer. He has been able to find an incredible number of NOS parts. If it wasn't his thread it's well worth the read anyway. Someone else on JCF may be able to help you. Good luck!
