Daily Driver, Go Where I Want To Build

Are you planning to move to 35s after these tires are done?

That might be a decision I make at the counter when the time for new tires comes. Whichever I do, I need to have wheels ready that aren't my current 16" set. Next spring is what I am preparing myself for.

The dance party on the rock was fun.

Finally getting the torn valve stem replaced and all 5 tires balanced again. Discount Tire couldn't understand how I damaged the stem. :)

They were trying to sell me on the tire replacement certs and I asked if any questions are asked or not...

The only maintenance/repair DT wouldn't do is patch a sidewall. I had a shop down the road put a tube in that one.

That was the spare I put on at Holy Cross after tearing the valve stem at Cleveland Rock.

Today, DT showed me this!

I had no idea. It must have happened on the way down. And I have put about 500 miles on it since then. Maybe the Centramatics work?

Ha, did the same this weekend at the local cash only tire shop. The guy had never seen a Colby valve, that little thing saved our bacon, was on a pretty steep rocky hill when the original valve stem got pinched.

One of those and a buddy's powertank got me rolling again in under 5 mins.

I need to buy a couple Colbys. And I want the next set of wheels to have shorter valve stems, if possible.

This was one of the "extra short" ultimate valves that requires a wrench or a set of pliers to install, but the stem is much shorter and did great the rest of the day.

That’s some insane rim damage for putting 500 miles after on it! Mine would be shaking filing out lol

All I can figure is that the Centramatics do something. I've brought the Jeep in specially for out of balance wheels in the past, and this wasn't why I went in today.

Always good to hear positive feedback on a product that is debated such. I need to look into those.

Or maybe the tube had something to do with it. I really don't know. I never viewed the CMs as a replacement for weights and proper balancing, just a way to compensate for a change in balance afterwards.

What width are your 33” tires with the 16” Moab wheels? Did you need to shorten your tire snubs to accommodate?

After bumping up to 295/75r16 KO2s I now need to rethink my tailgate for them and thought you may have some ideas on a good way, assuming yours were also tighter. Mine is mostly notable on the bottom body snubber below the tailgate.

Edit:

If I remember your tires right, and they’re metric - 11.2”.

16x8
5" backspace
~11" wide tire

With the Exogate, I am running the stock snubbers, but the tire is squeezed on there. When I move to a wider tire, one of my goals for the spare is to keep it tight to the back with just enough snubber length.

And I intend to at least run a skinny spare, if not a slightly shorter one to reduce the weight and physical bulk.

Thanks! Mine is hard to close the tailgate and the bottom bows out putting an unhealthy amount of stress on the gate, hinge, and latch, so I’m thinking a combination of airing it down and maybe shortening the snubber. Still deciding on the direction.

How’s the strength of the stock tire holder holding up? I’ve looking into getting an aftermarket holder for the exogate and it pushes the tire way too far off the tailgate. I have the same wheel setup as you but in a 35x12.5”

As best as I can tell, the stock mount is doing just fine. The whole assembly is tight and solid, which is a far cry from what I had before.

Good to hear, I had a buddy crack his stock one right across the top seam - could have been not as snug on the snubbers though.

At this point, I would guess that was the problem. About a year ago, my old unsupported swing out carrier started to break itself apart from the constant shaking. It took 80k miles, but it eventually happened.

Well if at any point you feel the stock one isn’t going to hold up or you want the tire slightly higher, this is what my buddy replaced his with. It raises the tire about 2” and only pushes it out slightly (I think about an 1” or 2”) off the tailgate as opposed to stock unlike most the aftermarket ones. It’s made by Hyline and includes a third brake light. Held up very strong for a couple years now of abuse.
