I am having some problems changing gears on my 2000 4.0 TJ. I live in Florida and was wondering if draining out the tranny fluid and replacing it with synchromesh is advisable? If so what is the best brand to go with to get a little more life out of my transmission?

I did that, Fluid change worked for a few days then same. You will need a Clutch Job or if automatic new rebuilt tranny.

It’s a 2000 TJ standard. I was thinking of changing the fluids first to see if there is any improvement. I’m not sure if synchromesh or 10w30 is the way to go. If it is just the clutch not the end of the world.

in a manual transmission in a jeep it calls for 75/90 GL3 if you use a gl5 it will eat syncros (want to guess how i know this)saving 4bucks a quart wound up costing me $900ish

+2 on the Red Line. It is expensive oil, but cheap oil costs more and gains you nothing. I had to stubbornly do it wrong before I did it right.

I have a 2000 TJ, 4.0L, 5-speed since new. I always had an issue up-shifting into 2nd about a year ago it started grinding bad when down shifting into 2nd. I figured it was due for a rebuild, but I changed the fluid to Redline MT-90 and it cleaned it up shifts better now.
