Does anyone know if the top edge of factory half doors have some type of clear protective film on them? The angled part where the soft upper seal sits is what I'm talking about.

I'm getting ready to have a friend paints some for me and I'm considering applying something like some clear 3M protective to keep it from wearing on the paint. Just wondering if it's worth it.

My '99 doesn't. The only wear spots are where the upper half sits on the back of the door.

That’s where I have a little wear right now. The previous owner of the door painted them flat black and there is no kind of protectant/tape. Thinking about adding it after it’s painted to protect that area a little longer.

I figure that they've lasted 20 years the way they are, wear spots and all. I've got bigger fish to fry right now, like my tires rubbing on my upper spring perches when disconnected and the axle's up against the bump stops and the wheels cranked hard over. Both sides. One battle at a time, lol. The flat black paint isn't a half bad idea. The metal is nice and polished in that area right now.

Post up a picture when you get'r done, I'd like to see the results.

One other thing I just thought of. Do the half doors have those plastic sheet water shields under the interior panels?

Mine show no sign of ever having them.

resurrecting an old thread. did you ever do anything to your upper part of your half doors to protect the paint? mine keeps rubbing the paint off. I've tried repainting the area with various things, including rustoleum truck bed and my uppers wear off the upper part of the paint where it contacts the door.

I never did. I final got them painted just last year. I only had the uppers on for a few days though, just to see how they worked. I ran the whole summer with just the half doors and no uppers.
