Power being shut off to California

Also, a 9mm for home protection? Wouldn't a shotgun be a better choice for the house?

Whatever gun you happen to own is better than no gun at all.

The 9mm and the shotgun would do the best job in two different scenarios. An anti-assault gun (AR-15) would be better, once they see and /or hear it they'll go to some gun free zone.

Why are people loading guns? Bad neighborhoods? CA sounds like a garbage area or at least parts of it, if you need to have a gun ready to kill a neighbor. Sounds worse than Beirut.

Most would argue that its a bad state all around... but on a serious note, I do the same here during outages (the very rare times we have them). It’s more of a “prepare for the worse instead of hoping for the best” kind of thing really; but I really have heard of looting stories in very nice areas also...

Down here in hurricane alley we have whole home generators that run on propane. They turn on automatically when the power shuts off. Pretty sweet to have. There are several brands that produce them (Guardian, Cummins, Kohler, etc...) Pretty pricey initial cost 5-6k but easy maintained after. Hell, they even crank by themselves once a month to run for 15 minutes and diagnose themselves.

Its not your neighbors, it is the roaming people who come into a neighborhood and loot it. And Californians are not allowed to have guns, you are supposed hide and wait for the Stazi I thought.
The only issue with that is there are only two states with more guns than CA, Texas and Florida. That is according to registered gun data and we all know that the number of registered guns is far less than actual numbers.

That doesn’t make sense really.... Gun registries are illegal in Florida...

We are allowed to have guns. You just have to go through a 10 day background check to make sure you're not a felon.

We have had outages for days at a time due to weather, but only several thousand people. Mine was out for 4 days in winter, so no real heat.

I guess I should look at California like Florida and Texas. There are a lot more crazy people on those states on average. There are a TON of guns on PA to say the least. We are number 11 per capita. Mostly hunting around here though as we have great hunting.

Good luck out there. Keep us posted and take care!!!

We are a gun loving group here in Pennsylvania, just look at how thoughtful & simple we made our “2nd Amendment”: Article I, section 21 of the Pennsylvania State Constitution states: “The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned.”

if only the actual 2nd Amendment was so clear

It has started in the North Bay with 185,000 w/o power. They area saying that around noon today they will be shutting down the East and South Bay Areas and the Central Valley and Foothills. Hell that means my power will be out at home and my cabin.

Grovetown 30813, right near Augusta.
Any good jeeping trails over your way, all we have here are WMA's, and they keep the gates shut on all but the main roads through. I'm about 2.5 hours from Augusta.
