Hi All,

Sad news. Someone hit my TJ while it was parked.

They are offering $8200 as a total loss.

I was wondering if any of you wanted chime in on if that’s worth accepting?

Tell them you will accept the offer but you get to keep the full doors and seats. Depending on which seats are in it...they look like the spice fake leather ones.

you could buy a fairly nice TJ for close to $10k here where I live.
You could sell the full doors for another $1k on facebook.

Ask them to toss I another $3.50 for more masking tape, and add in another voice to say that seems pretty good.

Doesn't sound like a bad offer. See if you can take the offer and keep the Jeep too. Some companies will do that. You might have to give a salvage price for it, but you'd keep all you've put into it. Then part it out to re-coup on your loss.

It's an inline 6, not a v6 ;) Sorry, pet peeve of mine.

Ask them how much to buy it back from them too. You can probably part/keep your mods and come out father ahead. I doubt they will let you just keep the doors.

As said by others, accept the offer but before you do ask if you can keep it or what the buy back price would be.
If you could buy it for $1,500 might be worth it to you. Depends on the level of damage.

This is why I don't carry collision. Not sure if yours is drivable but I save $600 a year without collision. I'd sooner just fix it myself but $8200 sounds fair.

When did you put in the V6 ?

I don’t understand why you wouldn’t carry collision. $50 a month is a drop in the bucket to have coverage for thousands of extra dollars.

One thing to check is make sure they have it listed as excellent maintained. I was not happy when my Sequoia was totaled by State Farm. I showed them my records and receipts and the guy said oh we can list as excellently maintained...but he never asked me at the beginning. So basic point... be PITA and keep asking for more

State Farm in particular is famous for totaling vehicles that are lightly damaged. They tried it with my '85 300SD back in 2011. They didn't succeed.
