I was installing a new bumper on my Jeep and saw this card thing, anyone know what it is?

I have one too, I just assumed it was an I.D. tag of some sort that is left on through the assembly process. I took it off and saved it, just for nostalgic reasons.

Ford called those buck tags. It was essentially the tag that referred to the order info and build options. I used to own a Santa Clara Sherriff SSP (special service package) Mustang. One of the few ways to prove it was a real SSP was the buck tags that identified it as a SSP.

I found the one on my grill on my TJ and it made me think about the SSP I used to own.

Mine is at the base of the front grill peaking out from under the plastic sway bar cover …..2001 sport. Passenger side

After removing the drivers seat for reupholstering I found a sticker beneath the carpet that had a bar code, VIN, Paint code and a TJJH77 which identifies the Jeep as a LHD Wrangler with 93.4" wheel base.

Was it a sticker or a plate? Mine had a plate between the driver's seat and the door ... before my Jeep was stolen and the thieves tried to de-VIN it.

A friend that is a long time (25+years) Jeep Technician informed me the metal tag is called a Body Code Plate and you can find the decoding of that plate in the front of the Service Manual.

Hi Charles, does you friend know how to decode lines 4 through 7? I see in this thread (and from what Jeep has provided me so far) what lines 1 through 3 are, but can't figure out 4 through 7.

My reason is that in January 2022, my Jeep was stolen. 5 months later, it turn up in Camden, NJ, a little worse for wear, but repairable. It's back on the road. But the *ssholes that stole it ripped the VIN plate out of the dash, the body code plate off the floor pan (next to the driver's seat), and destroyed the stickers on the driver's side door frame and the small stickers on the outside bottom corner of my door. In what might be an unrealistic goal of undoing all damage done to my Jeep, I'm trying to recreate these. I have the build sheet and sales codes from Jeep, but I'm not sure what all the codes on the plate correspond to (I'm also not sure I will ever be able to figure out the vehicle order number on line 3).

The VIN itself has been officially re-issued by PennDOT. The idiots that stole it missed a few VIN stickers in the engine compartment, which was enough for the local police to verify the VIN and sign off on having PennDOT sent a special plate to be riveted to my firewall.

All the same, my Jeep was violated for 5 months and even minor cosmetic things like replacing stickers and plates gets me that much closer to status quo ante theft. Any and all help, suggestions, insight, and advice is welcome.

My ‘01 had a sticker beneath the seat glued to the floor pan.
If there was a metal tag similar to what is attached to the radiator support; I didn’t see one.
