Rocky Mountain Billy Goat Build

Whats the word? Has it triggered itself since doing this?

I’m optimistic, finally it feels like I addressed a real issue instead of just tossing in a part and hoping. I’ve run about a half tank through, so hoping to do something on Sunday since that’s when I have child care this weekend. Considering red cone if it’s open.

It’s been solid so far, so much so that we took a trip with my little Jeep girl!

Well, standard bad PCM codes are up (cyl3 misfire, all 4 O2 codes). Given I’ve checked all the grounds and such, seems like either the Cats or PCM.

I did notice some heat soak, so first going to do the earlier model wrap on the injectors as I could see the misfire being a direct result of that. Not sure on the O2s though (which were new last fall, NGK).

@Chris - does this line up with what you've seen around the forum?

Just called Mark, sounds like I hit the wrong jackpot of the PCM. Thanks Chrysler.

You beat me to it, I was about to say it sounds like your PCM went bye-bye.

Might as well buy two ;)

Makes you wonder what we'll do when all the replacement PCMs are gone.

I'll share my experiences in the PCM megapost once I get the new one in and tested (he said a 10-14 day lead time on the manuals, and they just bought an 05 manual for testing).
🤞 🤞 🤞 🤞

Yep, I bought a spare 06 PCM (manual transmission) for mine from Mark.

He said the manual ones are more difficult to come by, oddly enough. I figured I'd keep a spare around just for moments like yours.

Timing definitely sucks, just bought RGA 5.13s and BMBs and was going to order 35s... I guess the gear install + tires will be next season since I expect the 5.13s would suck on 33s.
🤷‍♂️

I can tell you that my NSG370 with the factory 4.10s on 265s feels absolutely perfect, like it doesn't need to be re-geared at all.

I imagine 5.13 gears with the NSG370 and 33s would be way too extreme. I'm thinking 4.56 would probably be ideal. Maybe 4.88 at the most, but that may be pushing it.

I bought the gears with the intention of getting to 35s in short order, so I guess they will sit on the shelf a while!

Here’s some notes from my call with Mark:

* This is primarily an 05/06 issue, that is generally when (not if) it will fail
* The heat exacerbates the failure
* They don’t use old Wrangler PCMs for this, but ones that they can program to work
* They just bought an 05 manual to test them (instead of bench tests), which should speed up the turnaround time (they already had an auto)
* Emissions - yes
* SKIM should be fine - it may take a few cycles (up to 20) for the key to be learned
* The new PCM can register new codes you may have not seen before since the old PCM was defective and may have not been picking them up
* Generally they recommend also replacing your battery if it’s >1yr old (due to some voltage concerns). I told him I tested and load tested mine, however for whatever reason they still recommend it.

She’s getting sad just sitting there with a building parts pile... the WranglerFix can’t come soon enough.

I’m waiting to order tires and wheels until I can confirm the PCM is the fix.

Did you get the REM finished gear set?

I’ve called and emailed and used their contact form to ask about how to get that applied since it wasn’t an add on during checkout, with no response. I got fed up and just ordered - hopefully that’s not a big mistake, I assume it’s mostly the break in?
