Don't be too hard on me for being ignorant but I've been wondering about why some like the shorter front bumpers. Is there an advantage or because you like the shorter bumper looks better?

IMO a short bumper gives a more aggressive look (I have one) it also lowers the chance of whacking your bumper on a tall rock that your trying to climb over (which I did with a stock width bumper) however a wide bumpershould provide greater impact protection from an accident if you got hit, or hit someone at an angle.

Mostly I think its just preference

a short bumper gives better clearance off road. and a short bumper is less likely to hook things backing up. First "mod" lots of us do to TJs is to remove the plastic milk jug ends. My sons JKU got some parking lot damage. We cutoff the ends and added some stubby ends. Real simple. Under $100.00.

I've got a set of those stubby's to put on my stock bumper but been procrastinating.

I think there's no doubt that the Wrangler looks better with a shorter bumper. The factory ones are too long in my opinion.

Do not ever hesitate to ask any questions concerning your Jeep. We are here to educate each other.

I know a local guy who has a TJ and runs NO front bumper, just a winch in the center there.

well the factory TJ bumper definitely offers nothing in the way of structure. good way to save a few pounds.... and a few hundred dollars

Not sure what it weighs, but when I took mine off to install my new Barricade bumper I was surprised at how light the stock one was.
