I am in the process of building my second York air compressor after the first one seized last week from a lack of oil.

Who else has had catastrophic failures? What happened? And what did you replace it with? What improvements did you do?

Watching since this is on my list of things to do. I guess I can troll and say "bought an ARB" as an improvement... But really I like the integrated system and speed of a York.

So far my sanden is still smooth and quiet after a year. One thing I made sure to do was adjust the oil mister according to the manual. Depending on cfm the oiling requirements change. I also make sure to empty the coalacing filter every now and then though my blow by is very minimal

I like the York a lot. Enough that I don't want to give it up. I know with near certainly why mine died and this new one should address that.

I check the oil level in mine every spring. Always have to add an ounce or two. Other than running them low on oil they’re bulletproof.

I can't wait until you build mine now that you've worked all the bugs out...

That's were I wasn't a very good caretaker for mine. :(

I am guilty of being an "other" too.

A lot of the research I did for the Sanden compressors it looked like the majority of folks slathered everything internally with grease and installed a zerk on top of the housing to pump it every now and then. In those same threads a lot of people were saying they got close to 10 years of use.

Following. I use CO2, but prices keep going up. It was $13 a year ago. My latest fill was $19.50.

Tempted to get a dual ARB, but interested in the York setup.

The York option is awesome to say the least. It obviously requires some ongoing maintenance as jjvw has learned but worth the effort. CO2 was nice and fast but very inconvenient and costly to refill. The York fills just as fast (if not faster) and has an unlimited supply.

It must be set up correctly though as guys were getting oil in their air up lines which could get inside the tire. Not sure how detrimental that would be if at all, but it could be prevented with an oil separator I think. Jjvw can chime in on that. Maybe get an oil separator that feeds the oil back into the unit so you don't run dry lol.

I FRIED mine on my second trip to Moab and I cut a air bag and my so my compressor was running all the time. After about 5-10 minutes when I finally heard the compressor running it was STEAMING when I popped the hood. I sent it back to ORO and they resealed it BUT it never ran right after getting it so hot.

ORO use to sell a oil return line kit that was plumbed into the fill port and came from the oil separator filter.
I have ORO's new compressor so I don't need it anymore. @jjvw if you would like it I can send it out to you.

CU Off-Road has the kit on their website. It's a little more than half way down web page.

I have a coalescing filter on mine. Though I never saw oil or water in it. Occasionally I would notice oil at the filler end.

I already have a new one that I'm assembling. Thanks though.

One of the 4WD magazines did an article about how to make a OBA system using a Sanden a/c compressor. I can't find it online anymore but I do have some of their pictures from the article. Thought I had saved the whole thing but all I have is the pictures.

I know you have a new/used unit that you are going to do the mods to. Good luck.

I burned mine up while driving back from Moab because I had a leak and accidentally left it on and must have run out of oil or something. Around the same time I did a 1 ton upgrade and my coilover towers were going to get in the way of the CU Offroad bracket.

So I pulled my York and replaced it with: https://www.viaircorp.com/dual-packs/dual400c
